Whether you would like to shake it to the coolest beats, immerse yourself in culture or give in to guilty pleasures, we present a bunch of events for the upcoming days. Friday

11am - : Hungarian Press Photo Exhibition at the Capa Centre

This is the last weekend to see the Hungarian Press Photo Exhibition, a curated selection of last year’s best examples. A total of 14 categories ensure that the selection paints a comprehensive and realistic picture of contemporary politics, culture, sport and everyday life in Hungary, serving as a social compass to show the overriding tendencies through the work of photo-reporters.

Noon - : Gourmet Festival at the Millenáris Park

A prominent event in the Hungarian culinary agenda, the annual Gourmet Festival takes place this weekend at the Millenáris Park on the Buda side. Budapest’s top restaurants, fine wineries, pálinka distilleries and confectioneries set up stalls to proffer divine dishes to epicureans. Attending this gastronomic extravaganza feels like being invited to a deluxe picnic, with live music thrown in.

6pm - : Night of Art House Cinemas at various venues

Budapest has several elegant art-house cinemas which, for one special night in spring, stay open until dawn to screen movies of various genres until the sun rises. This year, on 17 May, night owls can visit five Budapest film theatres – MűvészPuskinKino CaféTabán and Toldi – with one single wristband. Many movies play in original language with Hungarian or English subtitles.

11pm - : Gerappaaa Party at VOLT Lokál

Don sassy socks, choker necklaces or baggy pants and a baseball cap as the songs of Eminem, the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, the Pussycat Dolls, the Spice Girls and other treasures from the ’90s trash bag are back again. Head to VOLT Lokál on Friday night and travel back in time with the hottest hits of your youth. Entry is free.

11:30pm - : Ross from Friends at the A38

British DJ Ross From Friends returns to Budapest after his first successful performance last year. He draws inspiration for his electronic lo-fi tunes from many genres, namely hip-hop, italodisco and house. He plays the A38 Ship on Friday.

Saturday

10am - : Open House at the Pesti Vigadó

On Saturday, anyone can take a peek into the gorgeous Pesti Vigadó where free concerts, shows, workshops, guided tours, children’s activities and exhibitions take place. A wallet-making workshop by Müskinn, a modern dance performance and a costumed photoshoot await, along with many other attractions.

Noon - : Szimpla Dog Market at Szimpla

Budapest’s most famous ruin pub hosts a special market on Saturday, where you can bring your four-legged friends and browse artisanal accessories and dog-friendly products while socialising with other proud dog owners.

2pm - : Lick The Click! Sunburst at the A38

On Saturday, outdoor party series Lick The Click! opens the summer season on the upper terrace of the A38 Ship with a daytime party from 2pm to 8pm. DJs for the occasion will be Isu and Crimson & Chrom.

6pm - : Women's Champions League Final 2019 at the Groupama Aréna Five-time winners Lyon take on Barcelona in the Women's Champions League Final at the Ferencváros stadium. A full house is expected for the first major European football final to be staged in Budapest in modern times – next year will see the men's Euro 2020 tournament co-hosted here. Can Lyon make it four in a row or will Spanish stalwart Marta Torrejón hold back the high-scoring French?

8pm - : Omara Portuondo at MOM Sport

Omara Portuondo from the Buena Vista Social Club comes to Budapest to sing at the MOM Sports Centre. The Cuban diva will be accompanied by virtuoso pianist Roberto Fonseca. Given their likely popularity, two concerts are being held on consecutive nights on Saturday and Sunday.

Sunday

9am - : ALDI Women's Run at Népliget

On Sunday, the annual ALDI Women’s Run takes place at Népliget park. Distances range from a family run of 600 metres to a more serious 17 kilometres, so anyone can find a suitable challenge. The event is organised primarily for women, but men can also join in some of the side activities, such as fitness shows.

10am - : Kiskertpiac Floral Fair at Anker't

At the eco-friendly Kiskertpiac floral fair, fragrant flowers, plants and beautiful bouquets await visitors. Enthusiastic gardeners gladly provide everyone with creative inspiration, plus tips and tricks. Gastro and design products also feature.

8:30pm - : Moulin Rouge! at the Bem cinema

In Moulin Rouge!, aspiring writer Christian (Ewan McGregor) moves to the bohemian underworld of Montmartre, where he falls for a captivatingly beautiful courtesan, Satine (Nicole Kidman), who is coveted by a jealous duke. On Sunday, the film screens with original English audio and Hungarian subtitles at the Bem cinema.
