Following its opening on 28 April, it's clear that the focus here goes beyond simply restoring a historic space. The building itself, originally commissioned at the turn of the 20th century, has been carefully reimagined, keeping its Neo-Baroque character while introducing a more contemporary, lighter feel throughout the interiors.
Rooms inspired by Budapest
During the tour, we saw several of the hotel's 102 rooms and suites, and one of the most interesting elements is how they're built around three colour concepts. Blue tones reflect the Danube, green draws inspiration from Hungary's natural landscapes, and purple nods to royal heritage. Each room feels slightly different, but all share the same attention to detail - from materials to small decorative elements that subtly connect back to Hungary. Large windows let in plenty of natural light, making the spaces feel bright, warm, and inviting throughout the day. The overall atmosphere is elegant but comfortable, with rooms designed to feel lived-in rather than overly formal.
A new dessert spot in a former pharmacy
One of the most memorable parts of the hotel is Klotild Patisserie, located in what used to be a historic pharmacy. The space itself already sets the tone, with its preserved details creating a slightly magical, almost hidden feel.
The selection focuses on Hungarian and French-style pastries, with a wide variety that makes it hard to choose just one. The vanilla ice cream is a highlight, and the cappuccino is also worth mentioning - the kind you'd come back for.
Dining and spaces to stay for longer
The hotel brings together several dining concepts, including 99 Sushi Bar & Restaurant, which focuses on high-end Japanese cuisine, and the St. Regis Bar, designed for evening drinks and cocktails in a more classic setting. There's also an à la carte brunch offering, which makes it just as easy to stop by during the day as it is to stay for a longer evening. Altogether, it's the kind of place where you might come for one thing and end up staying a bit longer than planned.
A spa designed to slow down
The spa is another part of the hotel that stands out, designed as a calm, well-thought-out space rather than something purely functional. Alongside the indoor pool and sauna, it also features a hammam, adding to the more traditional wellness experience. It's also one of the few places in Budapest offering couple's massages, making it a good option if you're looking for something a bit more special.
A new chapter for Klotild Palace
The opening of The St. Regis Budapest marks a new phase for Klotild Palace, bringing it back into everyday life while keeping its historical significance intact. The result is a space that feels both refined and accessible, whether you're staying overnight or simply stopping by for a coffee or dessert.
