Our regular round-up for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do and who should not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals and more – but here is our pick of the bunch:

Friday

10am – 11:45pm: OctoBeerBest at Bálna Terasz & Bistro Around autumn, a special burger and beer menu feature at Bálna Bistro, a panoramic hangout at the riverfront Bálna Budapest complex. You can come here to sample Hungarian Horizont craft beer, cocktails made of ale and juicy burgers.

2pm – 8pm: Retro Game Exhibition at Budapest Pinball Museum Budapest’s off-piste Pinball Museum has games dating back to the 1800s. In November, this attraction provides pure entertainment with a retro game exhibition, featuring even more machines, all available to play for free.

7pm – 9pm: Drink ’n Draw at Painters Palace District VIII community centre Painters Palace sets up a donation-based event this weekend, welcoming artistic souls to join a grand-scale drawing session. Beer, wine and pálinka brandy are offered for those who attend.

8pm – 9:15pm: Compagnie Pal Frenak: W_all dance performance at Trafó Aiming to get the viewers out of their comfort zone, this provocative dance performance is presented by Compagnie Pal Frenak, a contemporary ensemble responsible for unsettling shows. The production addresses social ignorance.

10pm – 2am: It Is What It Is Party at Tinta Art Café Multi-disciplinary community space Tinta Art Café welcomes DJ Alick Sethi, known in the UK for hosting the Electric Cafe Radio show. For this party, he will be joined by Velocity Girl, an emerging artist in Hungary’s underground music scene.

11:30pm – 4:30am: Lithium Night at A38 This cargo boat-cum-concert hotspot plays numbers from Linkin Park, Nirvana, Limp Bizkit, Green Day, Offspring, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Good Charlotte, Bring Me the Horizon, Rise Against The Machine and many more songs of similar ilk for the next edition of the Lithium Night party series.

Saturday

11am – : Marie Claire Fashion Days at Millenáris Hungarian and international labels are in the spotlight for Marie Claire Fashion Days, taking place over the weekend to showcase apparel, shoes, accessories and cosmetic brands.

11am – 1pm: The Curious World of Hieronymus Bosch at Uránia With this documentary, the palatial Uránia National Film Theatre provides glimpses into the weird world and mysterious life of the visionary Bosch, whose bizarre works have been fascinating viewers for centuries.

4pm & 8pm: Yamato – Drummers of Japan at the Budapest Congress Center Propagating modern taiko drumming, the Yamato group have performed some 3,000 shows across the world since their foundation in 1993. The ensemble touches down in Budapest, where they play four concerts at the Budapest Congress Center over the weekend.

7pm – 9pm: Constellations – English-language play at Fém Arts & Café Also showcased on Broadway and in London’s West End, award-winning Constellations by UK playwright Nick Payne is presented to a local audience in this adaptation by the Budapest-based Asterion Project. This two-hander explores a love affair between a beekeeper and a cosmologist.

8pm – : Colin Stetson and Jessica Moss Concert at Trafó American saxophonist Colin Stetson regularly collaborates with indie rock acts, performing and recording with names such as Arcade Fire, Lou Reed and Sinéad O’Connor. Violinist Jessica Moss is an integral part of the Montreal underground and independent music scene. She is best known as a permanent member of Thee Silver Mt Zion.

9pm – : Blahalouisiana Concert at Akvárium Klub Having gained a considerable audience over the years, Hungarian indie-pop band Blahalouisiana play the focal Akvárium Klub for their only autumn concert in Budapest.

Sunday

9am – 2pm: Pancs farmers market at Élesztőház Each Sunday, the courtyard of Élesztőház turns into a bustling market with home-grown and home-made products. Seasonal fruit and vegetables, cheeses, ham, salami, pastries, syrups, jams, juices and wine will be on offer.

3pm – 9pm Black Food Festival at Flow Specialty Coffee Bar & Bistro Flow hosts Budapest’s first Black Food Festival where you can indulge in all kinds of unusual delicacies. The offerings include black bread, black ice cream and black cocktails, among many other things. The dishes are coloured with naturally black ingredients, such as coffee, dark chocolate or exotic black rice.

7:30pm – 10pm: Catch Me If You Can at Bem Cinema Bem Cinema screens a film based on the true story of Frank Abagnale, with original English audio. Portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio, Abagnale was a con man employed as a doctor, a lawyer and a co-pilot – all before turning 21 – thanks to his skills in deception and cheque fraud. He acquired millions of dollars in stolen funds, much to the embarrassment of the authorities chasing him.

7:30pm – 11pm: Girls Names at Dürer Kert

This four-piece post-punk band from Belfast hit the Dürer Kert with a new album in the repertoire. Stains on Silence carries the atmosphere of David Lynch movies distilled in music.
