For September, the Budapest Classics Film Marathon, a wine festival and a huge summer-closing party are among the many exciting events you shouldn’t miss. Budapest Classics Film Marathon

The third Budapest Classics Film Marathon takes place from 4 to 11 September. Over eight days, you can enjoy almost a hundred restored classic films at various cinemas around Budapest. French actor/director Pierre Richard, UK composer Michael Nyman, German actor Udo Kier, Dutch actress Johanna Ter Steege and Slovak actress Magda Vášáryová will be the special guests. You can also catch free screenings at Szent István tér in front of the Basilica. Other venues include the Uránia National Film Theatre, the Toldi Cinema, the French Institute of Budapest and the Puskin Cinema. Corvin Beer Festival

From 4 September, Corvin sétány by the mall at Corvin-negyed will fill with all kinds of seductive suds for five days. Visitors can taste almost 100 kinds of draught and bottled beers including IPAs, EPAs, APAs, specially spiced and fruity drinks, as well as lagers. Budapest Wine Festival

Visitors to Budapest’s biggest and most scenic wine festival – held on the grounds of Buda Castle – can discover Hungary’s different wine regions and finest reds, whites and rosés between 5-8 September. But what kind of a wine festival would this be without culinary indulgence? No need to worry, as you will be able to feast on traditional festival dishes, and match gourmet specialities with your mood and wine here, too. Food Truck Show Budapest

This amazing alfresco food fair runs from 6-8 September at Kincsem Park racecourse, gathering most of Hungary's street-food trucks in one place. Juicy burgers, hearty and heavenly sausages, vegan bites, cold beer and many other street-food treats await over the three days. Street artists, musicians, greyhound and horse races, colourful markets and children’s attractions also feature at this gastro festival. 34th Wizz Air Half Marathon

On 8 September, you can complete a half marathon alongside thousands of other eager athletes while enjoying Budapest’s splendid scenery along the way. The Wizz Air Half Marathon is the biggest in Central Europe, providing an opportunity for athletes to admire Buda CastleParliament and the panorama of Pest and Buda while getting some invigorating exercise. You can count on several refreshment stops and musical points en route, while pace runners help you hit your PB. More details

Sweet Days Chocolate and Sweets Festival

This will most certainly be the sweetest weekend of the autumn in Budapest, as a selection of international and local hand-crafted confections, chocolates, cakes, ice creams and other sweet seductions tempt your taste buds during 13-15 September. The country’s best pastry chefs and confectioners give demonstrations for everyone with a sweet tooth and, after night falls, delightful jazz and classical performances, and glasses of fine wine, elevate the atmosphere. The icing on the cake is the special setting, as the venue is Szent István tér, spread out before beautiful St Stephen’s Basilica. And to increase anticipation, entry to this festival is free… Sweet!

Telekom Electronic Beats Festival

The Telekom Electronic Beats Festival starts the autumn clubbing season at the downtown Akvárium Klub between 19-21 September. Prominent Hungarian and international dance masters are due to appear, including Modeselektor, Sevdaliza, Robert Dietz, Jennifer Cardini and Nathan Micay. Alongside parties, workshops, films and a lifestyle market are also scheduled.

MÜPA Bridging Europe 2019

An annual events series organised by the Budapest Festival Orchestra and Müpa, Bridging Europe is now being staged for the seventh time, between 18 and 27 September. The idea is to showcase works from a certain country with high cultural values, from music to fine arts to literature. As Italy is the focus this year, Müpa will host renowned performers in the pizzica folk tradition, such as singer/tambourinist Rachele Andrioli, accordionist Rocco Nigro and legendary mandolin player Mimmo Epifani. Literarium Extra will present works by well known Italian authors as interpreted by famous actors while jazz quartet Cinema Italia will play a selection of revered tunes by Ennio Morricone and Nino Rota.
