Bringing their hand-made and hand-pressed soaps and olive oils all the way from their communal operation near Kyparissia on the Peloponnese, the Anglo-Hungaro-Greek collective Honest Toil are regular visitors to Budapest. Collecting the finest olives from several family farms, including their own, the team makes the highest-quality extra virgin olive oil in the village press, cold-pressed and with no blends or additives. The oil available this weekend would have been harvested between November and January, so the berries used were recently growing by the Ionian Sea.

7pm-8.30pm: Moszkva tér at the Bem cinema

Ferenc Török’s seminal portrayal of disenchanted Budapest youth congregating at what was Moszkva tér, today’s Széll Kálmán tér, shortly before the Fall of the Berlin Wall captures a rare moment in time. Its themes, though, of teenage alienation, are universal. Screened in Hungarian with English subtitles.

Friday

10am-6pm: Arnold Gross 90at Széphárom Közösségi tér

This is the last full day to see this retrospective exhibition celebrating the life and work of award-winning Hungarian artist Arnold Gross, who would have been 90 this year. Although Gross has his own gallery and convivial café opened by the artist himself shortly before his death, Arnoldo, it was decided that his paintings and drawings would be better showcased at this downtown gallery on Szép utca. Transylvania-born Gross had a dream-like, almost surreal approach to depicting cities and landscapes, mixing fantasy and reality. Co-titled ‘Culture Garden’, this major show also runs tomorrow, Saturday, 1 February, until 2pm.

A long night of dark drum & bass is on the cards as substream electronica promoters Uprising Beats showcase five acts headlined by Holland’s YMB. Saturday

5pm-7pm: Some Like It Hot at the Bem cinema

Considered one of the greatest films of all time, Billy Wilder’s screwball, cross-dressing comedy brings together Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis. Released in 1959, this tale of travelling musicians, gangsters and mistaken identities was famously blighted by production nightmares, the wayward Monroe needing any number of takes to get the perfectly crafted script right. The end result still zings. The punchline, ‘Nobody’s Perfect’, was later engraved on Wilder’s gravestone, near Jack Lemmon’s and Monroe’s. Screened in English.
