Shows, movies, concerts and cultural attractions – Budapest is always buzzing. Each week, we gather all of the important happenings taking place in our favourite city so you can plan ahead. Incorporating our regular movie guide, now updated weekly, here we showcase Budapest’s best events for the upcoming days. Get out and get involved!

Thursday

7am - : Solis Occasum at 360 Bar

Start your day with an energising yoga session above the city at the panoramic 360 Bar, accompanied by a DJ set. Participation fee is 1,000 HUF.

10am – : Frida’s Country at the Kunsthalle

This new exhibition at the Kunsthalle showcases a selection of works by Guillermo Kahlo, Frida Kahlo’s father. It offers a journey back in time to the Mexico of a bygone era: the photographs taken in the first three decades of the 1900s are thrilling snapshots of the country’s rich, centuries-old architectural heritage, nourished by diverse cultures and traditions, as well as documenting the monumental Mexican construction projects that spanned the early part of the last century.

7pm - : Ice Cream Night at Sütizz Confectionery

On Thursday evening, Sütizz Cukrászda on Csárda utca is offering a night-time scooping when snacking at night is totally allowed. You can enjoy uniquely flavoured ice creams until midnight.

Friday

3pm & 7pm - : Recirquel Contemporary Circus: Paris de Nuit at Müpa

This vibrant performance takes the audience back to the decadent but delightful world of Paris during the 1930s, and unveils the marginal lives of prostitutes, peddlars and secret lovers. Stunning circus artists, musicians and dancers evoke the lusty atmosphere of bygone Paris nights, providing an up-close experience to the audience seated on and around the stage. A must-see! The performance takes place on Friday and Saturday at 3pm and 7pm.

10pm - : Stranger Synths at Budapest Park

Just like in the famous Netflix series, the city of Hawkins comes alive for one night at Budapest Park’s Nagyszünet stage where you can experience the pure flavour of ’80s’music. Local band Quitoxic will ride the waves of retro on a themed stage filled with Christmas lights.

11pm - : Open Mic at The Studios

The sounds of the city's buzzing music scene is back with a late-night acoustic Courtyard bar session. Turn out your own tunes with a supportive audience or join a jam with everyone else.

Saturday

3pm - : Dipping in the Duna on the Római Shore

For the first time since 1973, dipping in the Danube will be legal again in Budapest for one day. Anyone can take the plunge at the temporary beach set up at the Római Shore on Saturday.

6pm - : Akvárium Terrace Session at the Akvárium Klub

A warm summer evening, a glass of wine in hand, your group of friends or that special someone by your side and some house beats in the heart of Budapest. Does it get any better? On Saturday, find it all on the terrace of the Akvárium Klub.

8pm - : Saturday Fever at BB'z Bar and Grill

A real house party awaits at cool downtown club BB'z on Saturday. Current hits and all-time favourites, great cocktails and burgers - anything else you need?

Sunday

4pm - : Bud Spencer Memorial concert at Dürer Kert

Bud Spencer would have turned 90 this year. To commemorate the popular Italian actor, the Dürer Kert is hosting a memorial day with a photo exhibition, a concert with the best songs from Bud Spencer's films and some all-time favourite food. Entry is free.

8pm - : Charlotte Gainsbourg at Müpa

Charlotte Gainsbourg is not only a successful actress and frequent muse of Lars von Trier, but also a singer. She gives her first concert in Hungary at Müpa on Sunday and plays songs from her most recent album Rest.

9pm - : Szimpla Jam at Szimpla Kert

On Sunday night, a group of music enthusiasts gather at Budapest’s beloved Szimpla Kert, combining a myriad of genres while improvising together. Decent amps are provided, so all you have to do is bring your instrument and a good mood to join the late-night jam session.Show off your self-penned songs while vamping on tunes with other guitar heroes.


Movies screening If you’d like to see English-friendly films, mainly blockbusters, your best bet is always Cinema City, especially the ones at Allee or Aréna, sometimes at Campona and WestEnd. Budapest’s art-house film theatres mainly focus on artsy and indie films, while the Bem Cinema brings back the classics to the big screen, almost always in English.

This weekend’s English-friendly film selection:

  • Yesterday premiers this weekend. The film follows Jack, who wakes up after a bus accident to discover that the Beatles had never existed. Performing their songs to a world that has never heard them, Jack becomes on overnight sensation with a little help from his friends. Shows at CinemaCity and at art-house cinemas.

  • A whole new world awaits in Aladdin, screening at Cinema City Allee and Aréna.


  • A father and his daughter struggle to survive in deep space where they live in isolation in High Life, showing at Cinema City Allee, Aréna and WestEnd.

  • The Men in Black tackle their biggest threat to date: a mole in the MIB organisation. Men In Black: International screens at Cinema City Allee and Aréna.

  • The story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, evolving into the iconic Dark Phoenix in X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Showing at Cinema City Allee, Aréna, Campona and WestEnd.

  • An epic musical fantasy about the uncensored human story of Elton John’s breakthrough years, Rocketman. Showing at Cinema City Allee, Aréna, Campona and WestEnd, as well as at art-house cinemas.

  • A timeless classic, The Wizard of Oz, is back on the big screen at the Bem Cinema on Sunday.
