Friday

9am - : Brain Bar Budapest at Corvinus University

Can robots provide us with emotional attachment? Will science eventually lead to a post-human era? Will dinosaurs roam the Earth again? At this meeting of the brightest minds (on 30-31 May), far-reaching discussions investigate such questions, and more, seeking what the future holds for humankind. Tickets are still available for Friday.

10am - : David Lynch: Small Stories at the Kunsthalle

This weekend is the last chance to see this exhibition in Budapest! Remember the Red Room, the Lady in the Radiator or that severed ear from Blue Velvet? Well, if not, visiting David Lynch’s exhibition Small Stories will take you there. This 40-photo display conjures up the nightmarish underworld of amorphous creatures and murky corners familiar from Lynch’s early cinema and perhaps from your own dreams.

2pm - : Rosalia Rosé and Champagne Festival at City Park

Between Friday and Sunday, you can see the sprawling City Park in pink (or slightly blurred…) as the annual Rosalia Rosé and Champagne Festival takes place, awaiting bibulous locals with refreshing rosé wines and fizzy champagnes. An impressive selection of traditional and new-wave handheld snacks accompanies the intoxicating drinks, and live performances by local musicians entertain the crowds.

6pm - : Baraka at the Bem Cinema

Without a conventional narrative, this film presents footage of people, places and things from around the world. From chaotic cities to barren wilderness, the movie takes viewers around the globe to witness a variety of spectacles in both natural and technological realms.

8pm - : A Love Supreme at the Opus Jazz Club

In their continuing series of live renditions of legendary albums, the four-piece Modern Art Orchestra play a tribute to one of the stand-out works in the jazz canon, John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme. Released in 1965, this musical milestone will be interpreted by Sándor Molnár on sax, Gábor Cseke on piano, Ádám Bögöthy on double bass and László Csízi on drums. Tickets from 1,800 HUF here.

Saturday

10am - : Children's Island on Óbuda Island

Every Saturday and Sunday between 1-23 June, Óbuda Island – the site of Budapest’s annual Sziget Festival – turns into an immense playground for adults and children alike with countless concerts, puppet shows, dance events, contests, sports activities, a bouncy castle and exciting arts-and-crafts workshops as part of a free family-friendly jamboree amid the greenery and tranquillity of the island.

Noon - : Stil vor Talent Festival at various venues

The riverside Stil vor Talent Festival takes place on Saturday at Lupa Beach, a popular summertime hangout close to Budapest, before continuing at Akvárium Klub in the city centre. From noon to 10pm, you can dance on the sandy beach and drink cooling cocktails, while from 11pm, you can go back to the city as the club night opens.

6.30pm - : Garage Band Festival at Müpa

Five young bands are each given 40 minutes to prove themselves in (where else?) the garage at the Müpa arts centre. After a curtain-raising set from guest stars JETLAG, 21 Gramm Akusztik, Rien du Sol, Verőköltő, Peer Pressure and Gidnim’Rém take to the stage on the hour, from 7pm to midnight, in search of the first prize, professional studio time at Müpa. The audience can also join in with special awards.

9pm - : Champions League final

Since it switched to a family-friendly Saturday night event, football’s Champions League final has broadened its appeal and allowed younger ones to stay up and enjoy the action. This year, two English clubs clash at this European showdown in Madrid, Liverpool and Tottenham. Among the many places to catch the match, the Winter Garden at the Dürer Kert live-music venue might be a good choice (admission free, reserve tables here), the Budapest Barbecue Company on the Grand Boulevard is offering big screens and an unlimited meat feast (4,990 HUF) from 7pm while Champs Sports Pub near the party quarter will be beaming from many screens.

11pm - : DJ Gozth all night long at VOLT Lokál

A$AP Rocky, Cardi B, Chris Brown, Drake, Future, G-Eazy, Joyner Lucas, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj and many more current hits will play at VOLT Lokál on Saturday, thanks to hip local DJ Gozth behind the turntable.

Sunday

7pm - : Tokio Hotel at MOM Sport

Halfway through a 34-date European tour, somewhat bizarrely entitled ‘Melancholic Paradise’, squillion-selling German rockers Tokio Hotel fronted by the enigmatic Bill Kaulitz play Budapest. Providing support will be LA alt-rockers the Charming Liars and Budapest’s own Szabyest. Details and tickets here.

7pm- : Utazás Na’Conxypánba at the TRIP Ship

In this gala performance of the Úszó Manézs mini-series of contemporary dance/circus shows on board the TRIP Boat moored near Batthyány tér, a boy and girl intertwine in a fairy-tale world.
