10am - David Lynch: Small Stories at the Kunsthalle
Lynch’s own Small Stories conjures up the nightmarish underworld of amorphous creatures and murky corners familiar from his early cinema. This Surrealist exhibition will be on view until 2 June at the Kunsthalle.
11am - : Töltött Hold Gastro Weekend at the Downtown Market
Over the weekend a huge food party awaits at the Downtown Market. Delicious dishes will be cooked all day by Michelin-starred chefs, guest cooks, and the best restaurants and street-food places in Budapest. This is the place to eat yourself silly this weekend, and entry is free.
7:30pm - : Early Music Festival Kick Off at Müpa
This festival takes the audience back to the distant past. Rarely played pieces come to life again in the course of seven concerts, each showcasing the music of a different period or geographical location. To mark the start of the festival on Friday, German baritone Michael Volle and an outstanding early music ensemble, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, play Bach cantatas and motets. 10:30pm - : Pure Lust Presents Local DJs at the Toldi Klub
This new series by party organisers Pure Lust aims to showcase aspiring Hungarian DJs. The second such event will be held at the Toldi Klub on Friday.
11pm - 5am: Gerappaaa at VOLT Lokál
Don sassy socks, choker necklaces or baggy pants and a baseball cap as the songs of Eminem, the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, the Pussycat Dolls, the Spice Girls and other treasures from the ’90s trash bag are back again. Head to VOLT Lokál on Friday night and travel back in time with the hottest hits of your youth. Entry is free.

5pm - 7pm: About Time at the Bem Cinema
About Time is a classic Richard Curtis rom com starring Domhnall Gleeson and Bill Nighy, so if you’ve not yet made plans for Saturday, we definitely recommend this movie at the Bem Cinema. The film screens with original English audio and Hungarian subtitles. Bring tissues.
8pm - : Madrugada Industrial Silence Tour at the A38
Madrugada have been at the forefront of Norwegian indie on both the local and international scenes since their breakthrough in 1999. Their dark, Joy Division-inspired, melancholic first album, Industrial Silence, won immediate acclaim. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the LP’s release, the band go on a European tour and stop in Budapest to play the A38 Ship on Saturday.
8pm - : Tariqua & Mabon Dawud Republic at the Fonó Buda Zeneház
On Saturday, a world-music concert will be held at the Fonó Budai Zeneház, showcasing two Hungarian bands who draw inspiration from North-African folk art. Tariqua’s tunes rely on the traditions of a Moroccan musical style gnawa, while Mabon Dawud Republic plays more modern Afrobeat, influenced by funk and jazz.
11pm - : John Digweed at the Akvárium Klub
On Saturday, renowned British DJ and record producer John Digweed plays a set at the Akvárium Klub. Over the course of his long career, starting at the age of 15, he gained global fame and forged his name in the history of dance music. More details
11:30pm - : The Cure 40 Party at Toldi Club
It was in the spring of 1979, exactly 40 years ago, when The Cure launched their first album entitled Three Imaginary Boys. Party organisers Tesco Disco are taking this opportunity to celebrate the legendary band with a party at the Toldi Klub on 2 March. Besides Cure tunes, DJs will also play songs by Placebo, Muse and other bands who were inspired by the new-wave, post-punk style of Robert Smith and pals.

9am-2pm: Szimpla Farmers’ Breakfast at Szimpla
One of the most popular ruin pubs in Budapest – Szimpla on Kazinczy utca – fills every Sunday with a friendly artisanal farmers’ market, where you can buy high-quality locally made goods and fresh produce. 4:30pm - Claire Darling at the Toldi Cinema
Within the framework of the Francophone Film Days, visitors can watch a number of French-speaking films with English subtitles. In Claire Darling, a 75-year-old Catherine Deneuve plays the eponymous central character who decides, one fine June morning at the start of summer, that this will be the last day of her life.
