Our regular round-up for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do and who should not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals and more – but here is our pick of the bunch:

Friday

5pm - 10pm: Friday at A38

When you just want to chill out under the clouds, drum ‘n’ bass is the best for some background music. And the DJs of Bladerunnaz are ambassadors of the genre in Budapest. When they come together on the panoramic terrace of the A38 Ship, where cocktails sell on a twofer basis, a good mood is guaranteed. Friday makes you forget about the troubles of the week sets you up for the weekend.

6pm - : Billy Elliot at the Erkel Theatre 11-year-old Billy Elliot lives in a hardscrabble English mining town in the mid-1980s with his father and older brother. Following the family tradition, he takes up boxing lessons, but after stumbling upon girls practising dancing, Billy discovers that he is a ballet-loving boy, and he’s not at all bad at it. Will his artistic talent bring the family and the community together? Will Billy succeed in making his dreams come true? This musical adaptation which has delighted audiences around the world is a collaboration between Elton John and the winning team behind the original 2000 feature film. The dialogue of this show is in Hungarian, but English surtitles are presented above the stage. More details

6:30pm - 8am: Yogabog at Valyo Kikötő

Sunset, the river and an invigorating yoga session await amateurs and pro yogis alike at Valyo Kikötő on Friday evening – just bring your own mat and contribute with 1,500 HUF. Afterwards, stay for a drink at Budapest's newest open-air riverside hangout.

7pm - 1am: Summer Metal Night at Dürer Kert

Metal heads unite! On Friday night, all genres of metal are represented, progressive, death, groove and everything that ends in -core.

8pm - 10pm: HUDSON: DeJohnette, Scofield, Medeski, Colley at Müpa

Could you imagine a more convincing line-up for a jazz concert? Hudson, also known as Jack DeJohnette, Scott Colley, John Medeski and John Scofield, will not only jam at Müpa on Friday, but also showcase material from their mature, self-titled album.

Saturday

8am – 2pm: Czakó Piacz at Czakó Kert

A farmers’ market full of friendly vendors awaits visitors in the lovely garden of an old Hungarian peasant house, bringing the atmosphere of the countryside to Budapest. Stalls offer organic products, vegetables, eggs, mouthwatering meats, handcrafted cheeses, wild mushrooms and countless unique specialities that are not available elsewhere in the capital. The chef at Czakó Kert prepares breakfast and lunchfrom the delicacies available here while the market is open.

10am - Frida Kahlo Exhibition at the Hungarian National Gallery

From Saturday, you can see more than 30 paintings and graphics of one of the most iconic female artists of the 20th century. Kahlo’s first painting on canvas, drawings and photographs will outline her charismatic personality, a life full of physical and mental struggles, and the alternate, mythical world she created through her art.

2pm - 5pm: Budapest Pride at Városligeti fasor

On Saturday, thousands of people will be walking peacefully side-by-side while liberating music plays amid a rainbow-coloured setting during the Budapest Pride March. The procession marks the closing ceremony of the Budapest Pride Festival, a series of LGBTQ events which have been running since early summer. More details

2pm – 4:30pm: Street Art Tour at Dohány Street Synagogue

Every summer, local and international artists flock to Budapest to beautify drab walls around town with mesmerising murals within the framework of the Színes Város Festival. On Saturday, its curator is laying on a tour that will reveal 18 different murals, six of which will be gone by the end of the season. After finding out about the history and background of each oversized work, you can finish off with a free drink at top restaurant Dobrumba.

11pm - : Coriascu at Larm

On Saturday, Coriesu, an aspiring DJ and producer from New York by way of the Dominican Republic, will be spinning discs through the night at Larm.

Sunday

6pm - : Soulfly at Dürer Kert

Former Sepultura frontman, Max Cavalera, has established a solid fan base with this band Soulfly, and so far released ten successful records. Now they return to Budapest’s Dürer Kert for an open-air concert on Sunday.

8pm - : Joshua Cook at the Tinta Art Café

Joshua Cook is an American troubadour specialising in roots rock'n'roll, hard R&B, electric blues and rubber soul. On Sunday evening, he plays at the Tinta Art Café in Budapest.

8:30pm - 10:30pm: On Body and Soul at Szabadság tér

If you have not yet seen Hungary’s Oscar nominee, you can still watch it on the big screen in Budapest alfresco. On Body and Soul is a metaphor-filled surreal drama based on the duality of the world of imagination and dreams. The film screens with Hungarian audio and English subtitles.
