Our regular roundup for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do, and who should not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals and more – but here is our pick of the bunch:

Friday

2pm-8pm: Attila Fekete: Cuban Eye at the Art+Cinema

Friday and Saturday are the last days to see this exhibition, so if half of your heart is in Havana head to Art+ Cinema and see photos of quickly captured moments in Cuba. Cubans live very openly; their apartments are usually small so they spend most of their free-time sitting on the streets watching life go by. These moments are captured in the photos of Attila Fekete.

4pm-11:59pm: III. Indoor Beer Festival at the Gellért Hotel

Between Friday and Sunday, the Gellért Hotel will be transformed into a large beer hall, offering more than 100 kinds of bottled and craft brews from Hungary, the Czech Republic, Germany, England and Belgium. On both days a delicious beer dinner will be prepared, while on Sunday a beer brunch will fill the ample bellies of the assembled ale aficionados. Those who purchase an entry ticket receive a branded beer glass to take home and can sample an unlimited number of tasty beers. More details

11pm-5am: Caliente – Reggaeton + Latinpop Night at Volt Lokál

Machos and mamacitas will be shaking it on the dance floor to the hottest Latino tunes on Friday night at Volt Lokál, where the best songs of Shakira, Ricky Martin, J. Lo and others fill the sensual atmosphere.

11pm-5am: Disco Fever 70’s Party at Mika Tivadar Mulató

This free party brings you the best of the 70’s in music, flying you back to the times of microphone hair and flares. Head to Mika Tivadar Mulató on Friday and let the boogie hit you.

Saturday

3pm-9:30pm: Borjour Magnum at Millenáris

A total of 200 Hungarian wine cellars present their finest whites and reds at Borjour Magnum, one of the biggest wine-tasting and gastro festivals of the year. One ticket entitles visitors to taste unlimited amounts of flavorful Hungarian wine along with succulent snacks.

5pm-6:45pm: Mean Girls at the Bem Cinema

Mean Girls is probably the most famous high school movie ever. A whole decade has passed since its release, but younger generations still quote its most famous lines endlessly. On Saturday afternoon, Budapest's Bem Cinema screens this classic with original English audio and Hungarian subtitles. Be there, but you can't sit with us.

7:30pm-10pm: Hungarian National Philharmonic at the Palace of Arts

On Saturday evening, the Hungarian National Philharmonic presents two Romantic masterpieces, a cantata from Rinaldo by Brahms and Puccini’s mass, Messa di Gloria. The cantata for solo tenor, four-part male choir and orchestra was written in the 1860s, and set to the dramatic poem by Johann Wolfgang Goethe, which was in turn based on one episode from a 16th-century epic. Puccini's mass is the thesis composition of a 25-year-old composer that took on its final form in a later revision and only saw the light of day decades after the maestro's death. Since then, however, it has become one of the world’s most popular masses.

11pm-5am: Toldi Carnival at Toldi Cinema

Downtown’s beloved art-house film theater, Toldi, turns into a popular meeting spot for young people in the evenings. On Saturday they throw a colorful costume disco party. Don a costume as the two most original ones win their owners a return ticket to Morocco.

Sunday

9am-2pm: Szimpla Farmers’ Market at Szimpla

One of the most popular ruin pubs in Budapest – Szimpla on chaotic Kazinczy Street – fills every Sunday with a friendly artisanal farmers’ market, where you can buy locally made goods and fresh produce such as fruit, cheeses, vegetables, honeys, jams, mushrooms, cold cuts, and homemade lemonades and syrups.

9am-2pm: Pancs Farmers’ Market at Élesztőház

This weekly market – enhanced with a homely Hungarian ambience – features various gastronomic demonstrations and entertainment performances to accompany the culinary jamboree, where up-and-coming vendors offer handmade delicacies such as tasty vegan dips, creamcheese and scrumptious vegan cakes, as well as artisanal sausages and aromatic smoked meat for the carnivorous, and endless kinds of edible treats.

11:30am-3:30pm: Classic Hungarian Lunch at Anker Klub

Experience the timeless tradition of a classic Hungarian lunch on Sundays through February at the Anker Klub. Sunday lunch at the Hungarian home is a heartwarming scene: families sit together to eat chicken soup, fried meat with mashed potatoes and some kind of dessert, and even when you’re absolutely full, grandma puts another plateful in front of you. If you come to the Anker Klub, you won’t feel left out.
