There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals and more – but here is our pick of the bunch:

Friday

4pm - 8pm: Arcadia Retro Game Exhibition at Dürer Kert

Between Friday and Sunday eager gamers can try out nearly 250 pinball machines, more than 30 retro computer and console video games, an Xbox One simulator with a seat and steering wheel, a Sony Playstation VR, Playstation 4 machines with new Call of Duty WWII and a Guitar Hero. Along with regular bar snacks, authentic Bud Spencer movie food such as fish and chips, beans with onions and Piedone’s favorite spaghetti will also be served. More details

6pm - 9pm: Rising Stars at the Palace of Arts

Year after year, the European Concert Hall Organisation showcases the future stars of global classical music. As part of the Rising Stars series, audiences are introduced to young and talented musicians who will possibly give sold-out concerts in a few years’ time. Performers this year include Swedish viola player Ellen Nisbeth, Hungarian trumpeteer Tamás Pálfalvi, Hungarian-Dutch singer Nora Fischer, Luxembourger percussionist Christoph Sietzen, French string quartet Quatuor van Kuijk and Austrian-Armenian violinist Emmanuel Tjeknavorian.

6:30pm - 8:30pm: Jupiter’s Moon at ART+ Cinema

From early November, the Budapest Boulevard Cinema screens a series of iconic films like timeless comedies, major masterpieces and cultic trash movies with original audio and Hungarian subtitles at the ART+ Cinema. The season starts on November 3rd with Hungarian film, Jupiter’s Moon, screened with original audio and English subtitles. 8pm - 9pm: Mozart: Requiem at St. Stephen’s Basilica

On Friday evening Mozart’s beautiful masterpiece fills majestic St. Stephen’s Basilica from 8pm. The Basilica does not host concerts too often, therefore listening to the requiem mass played on the big pipe organ is a truly special experience not to be missed.

11:30pm - 5am: Sub focus at Akvárium Klub

Best-known for his 2013 hit, Tidal Wave, English DJ and music producer Sub Focus spins discs late into the night at Akvárium Klub on Friday.

Saturday

10am - 6pm: Mini Cuerda furniture workshop at Technika

At the fully-equipped workshop of Technika, you can create useful and decorative gifts from timber at a woodworking crash course led by professional handymen. The mini cuerda sideboard was created by Chile-based designer Emmanuel González, who gave special permission to Technika to recreate his furniture during this workshop.

7:30pm - 10:30pm - : Queen + Adam Lambert at the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna

Queen + Adam Lambert is a collaboration between the active members of the British band Queen and American vocalist Adam Lambert. On Saturday they perform the most iconic songs of the popular band at the Budapest Sportaréna.

8pm - 11pm: Laibach at A38

Laibach are a Slovenian avant-garde music and cross-media group associated with the industrial, martial and neo-classical genres. Over the years, Laibach have developed a multi-disciplinary art practice in all fields ranging from popular culture to art (collages, posters, graphics, paintings, videos, installations, concerts and performances). Their gigs are always an experience, which you can see for yourself on Saturday at A38.

10pm - 5am: Max Cooper MESH Live at TEREM “This tour is all about dropping the audience right inside my audio-visual world.” London-based electronica and techno producer Max Cooper brings his most manifold project, MESH Live to Budapest on Saturday. MESH explores the connections between music, science and art, featuring a range of installations, lectures and film screenings, as well as DJ sets and performances by collaborators and guests at the concert.

10pm - 6am: Truesounds Music X Highway Records at Aether

The Russian underground rocks Aether on Saturday; discover the deeper territories of house and techno music with guests from the highly respected Moscow-based Highway records, Mike Spirit and Spieltape.

Sunday

9:30am - 12pm: Bandha Brunch at Bestia

There is no better way to start a Sunday than with an energizing yoga session… hang on, don’t scroll down just yet as this session is held at one of Budapest's best restaurants, Besita, where a tasty brunch selection awaits yoga practitioners after the session.

10am - 5pm: Vintage Fair on Zrínyi Street

On Sunday, Budapest’s Zrínyi Street by St. Stephen’s Basilica fills with all kinds of funky furniture. From textiles to lamps and furniture made from pallets to exciting accessories, you can find varied attractive refurbished pieces lining the length of the street, waiting to find a new home.

11am - I. Mexican Cultural Festival at Anker’t

A Budapest-based nonprofit organization, Mexicans in Europe, proudly presents the Mexican Cultural Festival for the first time in Budapest this year. The festival aims to present Mexico’s most authentic traditions through short films, documentaries, live music, gastronomical events, workshops and exhibitions.

7:30pm - 11pm: James Newton Howard at the Papp László Budapest Aportaréna

American composer and musician James Newton Howard brings his best movie music to Budapest on Sunday. His remarkable oeuvre includes scores from more than 100 films, such as Pretty Woman, The Sixth Sense and The Hunger Games, allowing him to gain a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award and eight Academy Award nominations.
