The fall’s most aromatic food festival honors Hungary’s traditional sugar-dusted pastry, chimney cake between Friday and Sunday. The festival presents the various methods of preparing chimney cake from baking it over hot coal to frying it in oil. The highlight of this food fiesta is the great chimney cake bake-off, when the general public can learn how to make these amazing delicacies at home from a super secret recipe. 1pm - : Pig Slaughter and Sausage Festival at the Hungarian Railway Museum
Between Friday and Sunday carnivorous crowds gather at the sprawling parkland of the Hungarian Railway Museum to immerse in the countryside tradition of high-spirited pig-slaughtering, and to discover the country’s long-standing culinary customs. Visitors can devour delicious meals accompanied by Hungarian pálinka brandy and beers, as well as enjoy family-friendly events, folklore shows, musical performances and presentations. More details
4pm - 11pm: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at the Museum of Applied Arts
Between Friday and Sunday some 50 dexterous Central European designers showcase their Spring/Summer collections for the following year within the art nouveau building of the Museum of Applied Arts. More details
8pm - 10pm: Israel Ballet: “White Swan” at the National Theater
The Israel Ballet is the only professional ballet company within the country that stages a classic international repertoire. Its dazzling dance performance “White Swan” juxtaposes two works separated by 120 years: the first act is a traditional take on the second act of “Swan Lake”, choreographed by Lev Ivanov, while in the second, world-famous Greek choreographer Andonis Foniadakis counterpoints the original ballet as he explores the dark recesses of the story in a work based on the Swan Lake suite.
8pm: Sting Concert at Papp László Budapest Sportaréna
Sting treads the boards of the Papp László Sportaréna on Friday evening, promoting his latest album “57th & 9th”. Tickets are still available but be quick before they run out.
Saturday
9am - 4pm:32nd Spar Budapest Marathon at the City Park (Ötvenhatosok tere)
Join one of Budapest’s biggest outdoor jogging events, the Spar Budapest Marathon, with various competitions held on October 14th and 15th. On the first day of this running extravaganza, joggers can warm up by completing short lengths ranging from 400 meters to five kilometers, while those in better shape can knock off distances of up to ten, 30 or the magic 42 kilometers on the second day. 2pm - 8pm: Whisky Show 2017 at the Corinthia Hotel
The seventh Whisky Show Budapest – happening between Saturday and Sunday – features an unparalleled selection of world-famous brands, including everything from blended and malt Scotch whisky to the Irish and American versions, as well as more exotic concoctions from Canada, Japan and other parts of the world. At the Whisky Show Budapest, you can enjoy your whisky neat or on the rocks, in elegant surroundings, as well as take in lectures by local and international experts.
3pm - : More than a Walk tour at the Várkert Bazaar
Every week on Monday and Saturday, an English-language walking tour takes visitors around the Várkert Bazaar, Buda Castle and the Mikveh, a Jewish ritual bath from the 13th century found in the Royal Cellar System, as well as for a stroll on the cobblestoned streets towards the Fisherman’s Bastion and the Matthias Church. If you’d like to learn more about Hungary’s history and many major landmarks, don good walking boots as this informative tour takes two hours.
5pm - 6pm: Somewhere Over the Rainbow Exhibition Opening at Átrium
This free exhibition showcases a selection of color photographs from 1940–1970. Swiss painter and graphic artist Johann Baptista Isenring was the first to make color daguerreotypes in 1839. Hand-coloring still remained the most popular method, right until the middle of the 20th century, when Kodak introduced its Kodachrome film. This invention slowly changed the meaning and use of coloring. The exhibit is on view until November 30th.
11pm - 5am: YONCÉ - The Holy Trinity - Beyoncé x Rihanna x Nicki Minaj at Volt Lokál
Songs by three uncrowned queens of pop, Beyoncé, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj turn up the heat at Volt Lokál on Friday. Shake it late into the night to the songs of three dazzling divas at this Bootylicious party happening at downtown club Akvárium.
Sunday
10am - 6pm: Vegan Sunday Market at Anker’t
A small vegan market is held each month at Anker’t ruin pub, warmly welcoming followers of a vegan or healthy lifestyle with countless salubrious treats. Pamper your taste buds with wonderful vegan produce purchased at this market, such as grillable vegan ingredients, coffee specialties, cakes, sandwiches, chili sauces and much more, to be enjoyed while meeting new people at this cool community center. The event is child- and dog-friendly, and also comes with cooking workshops.
11am - : Art Market Budapest and Design Week Budapest
