A Finnish atmosphere fills Budapest's Bartók Béla Boulevard in District XI during September 22-24, as the special guest of this year’s ELEVEN Ősz street festival is Finland. Sauna sessions, food tastings, novellas, film screenings, and exhibitions await everyone interested in the colorful culture of the Land of a Thousand Lakes between Friday and Sunday.

Summer slipped away so quickly that it seems like the ELEVEN Tavasz (meaning: “ELEVEN Spring”) street party just happened, and we are now already getting ready for ELEVEN Ősz (“ELEVEN Autumn”). Well, if there is a reason not to mind the end of the warmer months, it is definitely this multicultural festival that fills our hearts with excitement, and our itinerary with plenty of cool programs for the upcoming weekend.

As is normal at this festival, the organizers place the focus on one country this year as well, which we are sure you’ve already guessed from the first few seconds of the teaser video above. That man wrapped in a towel wanders aimlessly beyond Bartók Béla Boulevard, as on adjacent Gárdonyi Square visitors will be able to try a mobile sauna, taste Finnish coffee at Kelet, and devour delicious Finnish meals for real.

Thus the festival's special guest this year is Finland, which is a nice gesture as this colorful country celebrates 100 years of independence in 2017. In addition to sweaty sauna sessions and coffee sipping, guests can also purchase Finnish designer items, and can devour delicious meals: Finnish sweets will be served in Moha and PupiCake, while a characteristic drink, Finnish glögi, will be available at FÁK. On Saturday and Sunday, visitors can try a Finnish throwing game called mölkky, and there will be plenty of other exciting programs as well during this three-day jamboree. See below a few programs that we recommend:

FRIDAY:

SATURDAY:

  • 6:30pm: 100 objects from Finland – virtual exhibition at Defo Labor (three-day event)
  • 7pm: “Northern music” – DJ Panda at Gross Arnold Café

SUNDAY:

  • 12pm: Finnish-Hungarian brunch at Hotel Gellért
  • 6pm: A concert by Revontulet band at Tranzit (with Finnish poems)
