Akvárium Spring Terrace
A warm spring evening, a glass of wine in hand, a group of friends or your special someone and an acoustic alfresco gig in the heart of Budapest. What could sound better? Akvárium Klub in Erzsébet Square presents a special free event series for the month of April – between 1st and 22nd. Shaking up sunshiny spring evenings, they set up a temporary stage to welcome popular Hungarian musicians and up-and-coming artists to give acoustic shows and other exciting performances every evening on the lively terrace. On Sundays, family-friendly events entertain the little ones. This year’s special guest is Spanish DJ and music producer José Padilla, who takes the stage on April 7th. More details

Titanic International Film Festival
Between April 4th and 13th, the Titanic International Film Festival brings the best of the world in film to Budapest. Titanic specializes in features not yet distributed in Hungary or which will be available only later, balancing arthouse with mainstream. Altogether 47 films from 34 countries will be screened, with original audio and in most cases Hungarian subtitles, at arthouse film theaters and eminent event venues citywide. Altogether only nine movies compete for the prestigious main prize, the “Breaking Waves Award”, to be decided by a jury that includes Alexandra Borbély, who won the European Film Award for Best Actress in 2017 for her performance in On Body and Soul. VinCE Budapest Wine Show
Between April 5th and 7th, Budapest’s beautiful Castle Garden Bazaar fills with top tipples from Hungary and Central Europe. Altogether 160 exhibitors showcase their best wines, while various kinds of pálinka brandies can also be sampled. To fill the belly, gourmet products such as cheeses, olive oils and sausages will be served with wine biscuits. Seated wine tasting, master classes and interactive workshops also await connoisseurs. BANFF Mountain Film Festival
Massive rock formations, fast-flowing waters and snow-capped mountains. Embark on an adrenaline-filled escapade to exotic places and explore the wonders of the world out there through exciting adventure documentaries brought to Budapest by the BANFF Mountain Film Festival. Taking place between April 11th and 13th, this film festival presents a selection of adventure documentaries at a historic Budapest movie theater, the Corvin Cinema. The films discuss a wide range of topics, but they all have something in common: a love of outdoor sports and a reverence for nature and human achievement, all from a uniquely artistic point of view. Oldtimer Show Budapest
Honk honk! Between April 13th-15th, Budapest’s Railway History Park fills with an abundance of century-old motorbikes, cars, trucks, military machines, buses, lorries and steam locomotives. Altogether some 500 extremely rare veteran vehicles will be showcased, originally produced at factories all over the world, with a number of particular curiosities from the USA.

Hungarian Folk Dance Festival and Fair
During April 13th-15th, you can view a diverse range of traditional shows onstage, performed by musicians, dancers and artists from all over the Carpathian Basin at this vibrant folklore festival. Spring Etyek Picnic
The picturesquely rustic wine village of Etyek – about 30 km west of Budapest – is full of excellent boutique wineries, with friendly, small-batch family producers amid wonderfully green vineyards. The region is mostly known for crisp whites, and some of the country’s best Pinot Noir. This adorable bijou village hosts homey picnics four times a year, presenting top wines and gastronomic treasures typical of each season. The spring picnic, taking place on April 14th-15th at Újhegy (New Hill), welcomes visitors with delicious wines, tasty dishes, family activities, outdoor cooking and fantastic folk concerts. Guests can stroll the unpaved roads of Újhegy, popping into various cellars to sample distinctive tipples, amid the musty aroma of oak barrels and tantalizing bouquet of wine.

33rd Telekom Vivicitta Spring Half Marathon
The Spring Half Marathon entices enthusiastic runners to Budapest’s beautiful Margaret Island to complete diverse distances in inspiring surroundings on April 15th. Within the framework of this two-day jogging jamboree, runners can attempt a ten-kilometer Vivicitta and a 21-kilometer half marathon on the Sunday, while on Saturday the focus is on shorter races ranging from 750 meters to seven kilometers. The route of the half marathon passes by many of Budapest’s major sights, such as the Chain Bridge and Parliament. Refreshments are provided every 4-5 kilometers, and several musical points make the race a little more fun. More details

An exciting festival of fine arts is taking place between April 17th and 22nd around Budapest. A special wristband grants access to many of the city’s museums and art galleries, featuring almost 100 exhibitions and cool cultural events. International Book Festival Budapest
This free Budapest festival and intellectual forum – taking place April 19th-22nd – annually celebrates literature by gathering authors from all around the world and book lovers to Buda’s Millenáris Park. Bestsellers and recently published editions, roundtable discussions, concerts, book-signing sessions and other cultural events accompany the festival. This year, prominent German writer Daniel Kehlmann appears as guest of honor. More details

World-class DJs spin dance tunes and revelers let loose on the dance floor at this surreal electronica extravaganza taking place on the Hungexpo premises on April 21st.
