Budapest Airport (Ferenc Liszt International Airport) saw the strongest passenger growth in Europe last October, with over 17 million passengers estimated by the end of 2024. To keep up with this robust growth, preparations for constructing Terminal 3 are already underway, ensuring the airport can continue to provide top-quality service as traffic increases.
'Budapest and Hungary are becoming increasingly popular worldwide and more and more tourists are arriving every year. Significant developments are needed to serve the increasing passenger traffic with high quality. The design of Terminal 3 and some related construction works are already underway, and execution could start soon. The goals are ambitious; to serve more and more passengers, with high quality and continuously expanding infrastructure,' said Francois Berisot, the CEO of Budapest Airport.

One of the initial steps for the new terminal involves earth backfill works for the construction of an expanded apron. This future extension will accommodate 12 aircraft simultaneously and marks the first phase of a significant apron development. The design and construction of Terminal 3 will prioritise sustainability, aligning with Budapest Airport's commitment to
reduce its emissions to zero by 2030.
The entire terminal development is expected to be completed within the next eight years.

Alongside plans to upgrade the airport terminal, the government is also aiming to enhance the infrastructure leading to Budapest Airport. Proposed improvements include potential renovations to the expressway and railway, as well as the construction of hotels and parking facilities. These developments were announced in 2024 by Márton Nagy, Minister for National Economy.
