The stage is set – the memorial stone commemorating the former National Theatre has been put back in its place on busy Pest square Blaha Lujza tér after thorough renovation.
Budapest's revered old National Theatre is currently being remembered by the renovation of a monument that was erected in its honour on focal square Blaha Lujza tér, itself enjoying a revamp.
One of Budapest's busiest crossing points, Blaha Lujza tér is now undergoing renovation, with changes in traffic lanes until September. The square is closed to cars, cycles and pedestrians until 2022.
Covered in cheap metal sheeting half a century ago, wrapped in customised cladding in 2018, the historic Corvin department store on Blaha Lujza tér is now showing its original exterior.
