Kryštof Mucha, the festival's executive director, shared that they had chosen Johnny Depp because of the warm welcome the Czech audience once gave him and the support they got from him in return. Budapest was picked as the setting because of the actor's busy schedule – he is about to start filming and directing his second movie in the Hungarian capital.
In the festival trailer, directed by Ivan Zachariáš, you can spot the pretty Liberty Bridge, but the main location is the entrance hall of Art-Nouveau-styled Hotel Gellért. The actor walks in, settles into an armchair, and gets interviewed. The questions end up revolving around one subject: why he has not been given the Crystal Globe yet. The director let on that it was Depp's idea to improvise, which resulted in a mere 2.5-hour-long filming period.
Hotel Gellért might be the most famous hotel in Budapest. No wonder it is so popular among Hollywood celebrities: Pedro Pascal and Ryan Gosling both had photo shoots here. The mentioned hall usually looks like this when Johnny Depp is not on the site:
