Modi, a drama about the life of the Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani, is due to start filming in Budapest this autumn, bringing Johnny Depp and Al Pacino into the Hungarian capital.

Modi is Johnny Depp's second film as a director (his first one, The Brave, was released in 1997). It is a biopic of the life of Amedeo Modigliani, an Italian painter, starred by Riccardo Scamarcio (who appeared in the second chapter of John Wick). Al Pacino was also cast in the film: he is to play an art collector. The third leading role is to be played by Pierre Niney, who starred as Yves Saint Laurent in the movie with a matching title. The drama is a film adaptation of Dennis McIntyre's play, set in Paris in 1916.

The exact date of the shooting is not yet known, but it is due to start in the autumn. Johnny Depp visited Budapest a couple of weeks ago to prepare for the process. Depp himself will not appear in the film, but he will work with Al Pacino for the second time: first, they starred together in the gangster movie Donnie Brasco (our cover photo is also from that film).
