This July, while outdoor cinemas are popular, traditional ones are also busy. Several art house cinemas are hosting film festivals with new and classic works. You can enjoy Far Eastern and Middle Eastern films, and French cinema enthusiasts will find plenty to tempt them back into the screening rooms.

Far Eastern Film Days

The Far Eastern Film Days has plenty to offer at Puskin Cinema. Alongside successful pieces from recent years like Shoplifters, Burning, and Drive My Car, the programme runs until 6th July and includes the 2003 classic Oldboy and the anime Cowboy Bebop.

From 10th to 20th July, Budapest hosts its annual Franciadrazsé French film festival at Tabán Cinema, Buda's only art house. Expect a diverse selection of hilarious comedies, intricate costume dramas, and poignant dramas, featuring stars like Juliette Binoche, Johnny Depp, Léa Seydoux, and John Malkovich.

Eastern Comfort

The programme includes acclaimed Cannes award-winners from the 2020s, such as Holy Spider, A Hero, and Capernaum, alongside a selection of the freshest new films like Subtraction, My Favourite Cake, and Four Daughters.
