Shows, concerts and cultural attractions – Budapest is always buzzing. Each week, we gather all of the important happenings taking place in our favourite city so you can plan ahead. Get out and get involved!

Thursday

10am - 1pm: Family day at Budakezi Arboretum 

Take your family to the Budakeszi Arboretum on 24 October, where you can find colourful attractions for all ages. There will be a forest market, children’s activities, bird ringing and guided tours exploring the abundant nature around Budakeszi.

7.30pm - 11pm:Inter Arma at Dürer Kert Out of Richmond, Virginia, metal band Inter Arma add a meditative acoustic touch to the otherwise full-on doom and psych-folk as illustrated on recent album Sulphur English. They play the Dürer Kert as part of Desszert Feszt Budapest, accompanied by Hungary-based LanternI, who next tread the boards at a Doom-Stoner night in Kiskunfélegháza.

9pm - 3am:Early Halloween party at the ELTE Music Pub  Students and graduates alike are invited to wear their scariest costumes and party till the early hours at the ELTE Music Pub. This year, three faculties are celebrating: BGGYK, TÓK and TTK. Prices vary, so check the Facebook event.

9pm - 5am:All You Can Drink Party with Erasmus Life Budapest  Thursday night means drink specials and Latin music at ELB's all-you-can-drink event for Erasmus and international folk in the city. There will be an open bar until 3am, and tickets are 2,500 forints plus 1,000-forint admission. ELB Cards are available for purchase, which give the holder discounts on upcoming parties, trips and events. All takes place at Morrison’s 2 on Szent István körút, between Nyugati station and Margaret Bridge.

Friday

7pm - : Exhibition opening of Quieta by Ádám Breier at the Három Hét Galéria  The Három Hét Gallery on trendy Bartók Béla út is going strangely Cuban for the opening of Ádám Breier’s photo exhibition on 25 October. His images were taken in Havana in the winter of 2018. There will be lively Cuban music, red wine, cuba libres and a screening of the documentary, Havana, One Way at the exhibition, too. Admission is free.

7pm - 9pm: Edin Karamazov at the Franz Liszt Music Academy Bosnian lute master Edin Karamazov, known for his work with Sting, plays pieces by Bach, Zamboni and Leo Brouwer in the Solti Hall before an informal conversation between the performers after 9pm.

7.30pm - 10.30pm:Scarlxrd at the Akvárium Klub UK vlogger turned rapper, Marius Lucas-Antonio Listhrop aka Scarlxrd will liven up the main concert hall of the Akvárium Klub on 25 October. Previously in metal band Myth City, influenced by Linkin Park, Missy Elliott and Eminem, Scarlxrd masterfully mixes elements of trap music with heavy metal. He has also filmed some of his videos in Hungary.

10pm - :Stranger Synths Halloween at Dürer Kert Party in the Upside Down on Friday at a special retro event inspired by the Netflix hit series, Stranger Things. The Dürer Kert turns into Hawkins with the best songs from the ’80s and current hits for Halloween. Hosted all night by Quixotic, the main pioneer of the Hungarian retrowave scene, an audio-visual journey to the ’80s through synth waves is guaranteed. There will be Christmas lights, BMX, Stranger Things cosplay, retro arcade machines and a unique photo wall for the full Upside Down experience.

Saturday

11am - noon:Culinary tour of the Great Market Hall

A delicious gastronomic perusal within the iconic Great Market Hall begins this Saturday at 11am. Your guide awaits to take you through all the flavours of Budapest, from traditional spicy salamis and fresh warm scones, to pickled cabbage, plum marmalade, mushrooms in cream sauce and handmade strudel from a genuine Hungarian grandma. Tickets can be purchased online.

6pm - 10pm: Blahalouisiana at the Akvárium Klub Blahalouisiana, recent recipients of the Artisjus award given to outstanding contemporary Hungarian musicians, introduce their latest album at the Akvárium Klub this Saturday. The band has long filled concert halls across the country and at the biggest local music festivals. In 2016, they won the award for the Best New Band at Hungarian music festivals, and in the same year released the synopsis of their work until that time, Blahalouisiana. In the autumn of 2017, their second album also debuted in front of a full house. Here they showcase their latest release, Minden rendben. Barbara Schloblocher’s vocals sit nicely against a background of indie pop-rock jangle.

7pm - 10pm: Feminist Film Forum: The Love Witch at the Közkincs Library Get in the mood for Halloween and a little feminist discussion when Anna Biller’s 2016 cult horror flick The Love Witch is screened at the Közkincs Library near Astoria. 11.30pm - :Technokunst – Denise Rabe & Stef Mendesidis at the A38 Ship Technokunst kick off the 2019-20 season with DJ Denise Rabe, who has come a long way from scratching in Bielefeld to working with Berlin’s renowned Ipse club, and Moscow-born Greek Stef Mendesidis, who learned his trade on the challenging DJ decks of the Russian capital.

Sunday

7pm - 10.15pm: Schindler’s List at the Bem cinema Steven Spielberg swept the board at the Oscars with this 1993 masterpiece, set in the Kraków Ghetto and Auschwitz. It elevated Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes onto the world stage and unwittingly transformed Kraków’s Jewish Quarter from backwater to sought-after tourist destination. Heartbreaking, uplifting, brutal and life-affirming all in 195 minutes, it’s a must-watch for anyone interested in this region during a particular time in history. And to think it all started because Australian writer Thomas Keneally popped in to buy a briefcase in Beverly Hills – at a shop run by a Holocaust survivor and Jew saved by war-time playboy entrepreneur Oskar Schindler.

8pm - : CAMU Magic show at the A38 Ship

Prestidigitators Gábor Németh and the Great Tamás show that it’s all done with mirrors as far as the corporate world is concerned. A humorous look at contemporary commerce with a few sleights of hand thrown in. All in all, a gentle piece of light entertainment to ease you back into Monday morning.
