Our regular round-up for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do and who should not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals and more – but here is our pick of the bunch:

Friday

All Day: Valentine's Weekend

As it’s Valentine's Weekend, you may be in need of a few ideas for that special rendezvous. Don't worry, we've got you covered –  read our recent article for a whole bunch of date ideas, from lovey-dovey to non-naff.

4pm - : Take time out at Rákócity

Thanks to Mindspace, Budapest now has a little recreational room packed with lots of plants and light, available for anyone to chill for an hour free of charge. So bring a book, a friend, your Netflix or nothing but yourself, and just chill. Read more details here.

8pm - : Green Book Preview at the Művész Cinema

Nominated for five Oscars, the Green Book is being screened at the Művész Cinema on Friday, a week before its official Hungarian premiere. Set in the 1960s, this road movie tells the story of an Italian-American chauffeur-bouncer and a world-class African-American pianist on a concert tour of the Deep South. To find food and lodgings, they must rely on ‘The Green Book’ so as to be accommodated at safe establishments for non-whites.

11pm - 5am: Gerappaaa at VOLT Lokál

Don sassy socks, choker necklaces or baggy pants and a baseball cap as the songs of Eminem, the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, the Pussycat Dolls, the Spice Girls and other treasures from the ’90s trash bag are back again. Head to VOLT Lokál on Friday night and travel back in time with the hottest hits of your youth. Entry is free.

11pm - : Indoor Beer Festival at the Gellért Hotel

Between Friday and Sunday, the Gellért will be transformed into a large beer hall, offering some 100 kinds of bottled and craft brews from Hungary and abroad. On Friday and Saturday, a delicious beer dinner will be prepared, while on Sunday a beer brunch will fill the ample bellies of the assembled ale aficionados. The entry ticket is valid for unlimited beer tasting.

Saturday

8am – 2pm: Czakó Farmer’s Market at the Czakó Kert

Czakó Piac is a farmer’s market full of friendly vendors, awaiting visitors in the lovely garden of an old Hungarian peasant house on the Buda side. Stalls offer organic products, vegetables, eggs, mouthwatering meat, handcrafted cheeses, wild mushrooms and countless unique specialities not available elsewhere in the capital. The chef at Czakó Kert prepares the best breakfasts and lunchesfrom the delicacies available here while the market is open.

Noon - : ELTE Movie Marathon at the Bem Cinema

On Saturday, the film department at ELTE university takes over the Bem cinema for a 24-hour movie marathon. During the course of an entire day, ten movies will be screened, one after the other, including classics such as No Country for Old Men and popular new features like Get Out.

3pm - : Borjour Magnum at the Millenáris Park

Borjour Magnum is the largest wine-tasting event in Hungary. On Saturday, an impressive list of wines from more than 200 Hungarian wineries and guest ones from abroad will be exhibited and available to sample in the halls of the Millenáris Park.

6pm - 4am: Brody Carnival at The Studios

Cocktails, colours, fun and glam; on Saturday, Brody Studios is throwing an epic carnival party. Don your best costume and masks as the most creative efforts will be rewarded. Entry is for Brody visa holders and their guests. If you need a great party for the weekend, this is it.

6:30pm - Changing Grey at the Ludwig Museum

Visitors to the Ludwig Museum can enjoy a live concert titled Changing Grey on Saturday. The duo of Balázs Zságer and DJ András Genser mix techno effects with ambient and other musical associations in their music. Fantastic visuals enhance the live performance.

Sunday

10am - : Budapest Fish Festival at ELTE Lágymányos Campus

Indulge in fine piscine cuisine between Saturday and Sunday and try more than 100 types of fish dishes. Heated tents, concerts, a funfair and aquariums make the festival complete. The event will be held in the car park by the ELTE Lágymányosi Campus.

10:30am – : BB’z Sunday Brunch at BB’z Bar and Grill

A cool focal hangout, BB’z throws Sunday get-togethers for late risers. An American-style buffet table, an omelette station, salads, mini burgers, homemade cheeses and many tasty treats await. You get a Mimosa as a welcome drink, while your four-legged friend is greeted with fresh water. Resident DJs ensure a great atmosphere, while games entertain on a chill-out Sunday.

3pm - : Clothes Swap at Müszi Közért

A clothes swap in the spirit of sustainability and minimalism will be held at the Müszi Közért on Sunday. Bring your clothes, but make sure they’re all in a good condition. In exchange, you can browse others’ piles and leave with any number of second-hand items. Entry is 500 forints.
