Our regular round-up for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do and who should not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals and more – but here is our pick of the bunch:

Friday

2pm - : German Beer Festival at the WestEnd Shopping Center rooftop terrace

The rooftop terrace of WestEnd Shopping Center awaits visitors with a wide variety of German beers. Typical German dishes feature, too. All takes place on the roof terrace, where World Cup matches will be screened live over the weekend.

4pm - 10pm: Taranta Fest at Anker't

Colourful dancers, southern Italian musicians and Sicilian sounds shake up Paulay Ede utca on Friday. Workshops and concerts await the lovers of Mediterranean culture.

5pm - 11:30pm: Borjour Wine Picnic at Szabadság tér

Bring a blanket to Szabadság tér on Friday, and sample the reds and whites of some ten wineries that set up temporary stalls here. Street musicians play and welcome drinks put you in the mood.

7pm - 11:30pm: The Shining at the Budapest Rooftop Cinema "Here's Johnny" - and the creepy twins... If you are up for some chills on Friday evening, watch Stanley Kubrick's magnificent spooker as you sit overlooking Budapest at the Rooftop Cinema. Original English audio, Hungarian subtitles. The first 30 popcorns are free, so do get there in time.

8pm: Jeff Mills: Planets at the Margaret Island Open-Air Stage

Star DJ Jeff Mills brings a genuine musical spectacular to Budapest on Friday. In his latest concert, Planets, the nine planets of the solar system resound. The performance spans the broadest spectrum of emotions.

Saturday

9am -: Szabihíd at Liberty Bridge

On four consecutive weekends from tomorrow, Liberty Bridge is all yours! This focal historic span will once again become a car-free public hangout attracting huge crowds. Local bands, flamenco and swing dancers, salsa, zumba and yoga instructors all flood the bridge, and many other exciting events take place directly over the Danube.

10am - 11pm: POOL&BEER at the Vituki Strand

Perfectly poured beer, frosty spritzers, thermal waters, a sauna, burgers and music from morning till eve. This is POOL&BEER,a regular (beach) party series. At least once a month, they fill Vituki Beach with fun and music that even make palm trees sprout in Budapest’s District IX.

Noon - 9pm: Juju & Jordash, Byron The Aquarius at PONTOON

GTR at Pontoon takes you through a hedonistic nine-hour journey of house, techno and disco featuring incredible headline DJs. The event centres around the supreme talents of Juju & Jordash. Exclusively using hardware to create the music, their shows are fully improvised. Their often abstract techno productions have seen releases at Dekmantel and Rush Hour Recordings.

2pm - : Lick The Click! Sunburst x Isu, Crimson, Chrom at A38

The DJs of Lick The Click!, Isu, Crimson and Chrom, are daredevils of the dancefloor. They mix up house, punk funk and dubby disco like nobody else, while delicious drinks flow constantly. Sooner or later, this combination sees everyone end up on the dance floor.

8:15pm - 11pm: French Street Party: Peyo and Legars at the French Institute

On Saturday, July 14th, you can celebrate Bastille Day with the five-piece Peyo from Clermont. Influenced by French chansons and pop, their songs bring cheer and merriment, like a fine French wine, to Budapest.

Sunday

10am - 6pm: Frida Kahlo at the Hungarian National Gallery

While everyone is in World Cup Final frenzy, Sunday will be a good day to visit the astonishing Frida Kahlo exhibition in Budapest. Read more about it in our article here.

5pm- : 2018 World Cup Final

8pm -: From Opera to Tango - Erwin Schrott Gala Concert at the Margaret Island Open-Air Stage

A major name in the international opera scene, Uruguay’s Erwin Schrott performs alfresco at the Margaret Island Open-Air Theatre as part of the Budapest Summer Festival. The operatic bass-baritone – best known for his interpretation of the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni – has appeared on the world’s most prominent stages from the Metropolitan Opera in New York to London’s Royal Opera House and La Scala in Milan.
