Our regular roundup for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do, and who should not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals and more – but here is our pick of the bunch:

Friday

10am - 10pm: Hungarian Film Week at the Corvin Cinema

Many fine Hungarian films from recent years screen with English subtitles within the framework of the Hungarian Film Week this weekend. A hit movie about Hungary’s most famous bank robber, an official Oscar nominee and heart-wrenching drama all feature in the schedule. Admission to each film is only 500 HUF.

10am - 7pm: Mangalica Festival at Szabadság Square

This buoyant alfresco festival – taking place downtown between Friday and Sunday – features a wide range of mangalica-based meals cooked on the spot, alongside goods handcrafted by local producers, Hungary’s finest wines and pálinka brandy specialties, and live music performances.

11am - 10pm: Töltött Hold Gastro Weekend at the Downtown Market

All weekend, Japanese, Taiwanese, Middle-Eastern, Mexican, American, Balkan, Hungarian and Italian flavors fill the Downtown Market Hall that operates with extended opening hours during this special event. From sushi through bao to mezze and BBQ sandwiches, market foods from all around the world will fill the stands, while champagne, wine, beer and pálinka brandy quench your thirst. Entry is free and there will be live music.

noon - 8pm: 2nd Buda Doughnut Festival at Kőrösi József Street

This is the last weekend of the colorful carnival season in Hungary that bids farewell to winter and welcomes the warmer months. So stuff yourself full of doughnuts one last time before you even have to start thinking about swimsuits. From traditional to new-wave, more than 80 kinds of circular sweets await at the festival, but other carnival treats as well as wines, cocktails and pálinka brandy will also be available.

8pm - 10pm: Call me By Your Name at the Art+Cinema

On Friday and Sunday, the Budapest Boulevard Cinema presents this three-time Oscar nominee with original audio and Hungarian subtitles. Call Me By Your Name is a sensual and transcendent tale of first love, based on the acclaimed novel by André Aciman.

Saturday

8am - 2pm: Czakó Farmer’s Market at Czakó Kert

A farmers’ market full of friendly vendors awaits visitors in the lovely garden of an old Hungarian peasant house, bringing the atmosphere of the countryside to Budapest. Stalls offer organic products, vegetables, eggs, mouthwatering meats, handcrafted cheeses, wild mushrooms and countless unique specialties that are not available elsewhere in the capital. The chef at Czakó Kert prepares breakfasts and lunches from the delicacies available here while the market operates.

4pm - 7am: DJ Soundpro & Friends/ 1st Birthday Party at VOLT Lokál

On Saturday VOLT Lokál throws a unique party in the heart of Budapest. Over the course of 15 hours, altogether 15 top Hungarian DJs spin discs, filling the dancehalls with the latest hits and timeless classics. This is the place to be if you want to shake it all night – and morning.

11pm - 6am: Emmanuel at Dürer Kert

7:30pm - 10:30pm: The Sonics, Gemma Ray at A38

Punk rock godfathers, America’s Sonics, bring their 2015 record to Budapest on Saturday. Although the band members are in their seventies now, they are fresher, more mature and louder than ever. Basildon-born songstress Gemma Ray, one of the most interesting individuals in Europe’s indie scene, provides support.

Sunday

9am - 2pm: Szimpla Farmers’ Market at Szimpla

One of the most popular ruin pubs in Budapest – Szimpla on chaotic Kazinczy Street – fills every Sunday with a friendly artisanal farmers’ market, where you can buy locally made goods and fresh produce such as fruit, cheeses, vegetables, honeys, jams, mushrooms, cold cuts, and homemade lemonades and syrups.

11:30am - 3:30pm: Classic Hungarian Lunch at Anker Klub

Experience the timeless tradition of a classic Hungarian lunch on Sundays through February at the Anker Klub. Sunday lunch at the Hungarian home is a heartwarming scene: families sit together to eat chicken soup, fried meat with mashed potatoes and some kind of dessert, and even when you're absolutely full, grandma puts another plateful in front of you. If you come to the Anker Klub, you won’t feel left out.

10am - 4pm: Kiskertpiac at Anker't
