What could be better than sipping fine Hungarian wines during summertime? We know: enjoying the same wines as a fun frosty treat on a stick! Thanks to a prominent Budapest wine bar joining forces with an innovative ice-cream parlor, we can now savor select Hungarian wines frozen in ice. Specialized in selling the country’s top reds, whites, and rosés, DiVino provided the Anjuna sweet shop with four different types of potables to freeze them into colorful ice pops. And the result? Intoxicating glacial treats fused with a selection of fruits or dark chocolate, now available in Budapest.

On July 12th, sweet-toothed urban dwellers were lining up at the permanent locations of Budapest’s DiVino wine bar at the St. Stephen’s Basilica and at Gozsdu Courtyard to chill out with a frosty block of Hungarian wine. Thanks to a fruitful cooperation between these highly frequented bars and Anjuna, a progressive local ice-cream parlor selling icy sticks of colorful treats, now anyone of drinking age can try how Hungarian wines taste when they are frozen. However, the sweet delicacy is not only the result of simply subjecting the libations to subzero temperatures, but after experimenting with various styles and flavors, the wines were expertly mixed with varied fruits that accentuate the aroma of the booze selected for freezing.

For this debut day, four different ice pops were made to perfection, including the Bolyki winery’s crimson Egri Bikavér dipped in Colombian dark chocolate, the Homola cellar’s light-hued 100% Balaton wine combined with apricot, Csabi Miklós’s Királyleányka from the Mór wine region fused with orange and fresh strawberry pieces, and Tamás Dúzsi’s refreshing rosé mixed with strawberry. Similarly to Anjuna’s ordinary selection, these new wine-based confections are also free of artificial additives and preservatives, and they don’t contain milk or gluten products.

While the peak season for enjoying ice cream is still under way, the Anjuna team has already had a busy summer. Besides this inebriating project, the popular parlor was selected as the official ice-cream supplier during the FINA World Championships, providing a chill experience for fans of water sports who were hanging out in Budapest to cheer for the world’s best aquatic athletes.

The alcohol-infused delicacies are available at the Anjuna shops on Lövőház Street and on Sas Street, while the DiVino bar within Gozsdu Courtyard also sells all four varieties of the newly developed frosty treats.
