There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals, performances, and more – but here is our pick of the bunch for the imminent 72 hours or so:

Friday

10am - 8pm: Titanic Exhibition at VAM Design CenterThis world-renowned traveling exhibition is on view during July 20-December 31, displaying several original artifacts – including furniture, fine porcelain, clothes, and personal possessions – recovered from the final resting place of the ship touted as “unsinkable”. The exhibition explains the dramatic and poignant story of the ship, its crew, and passengers who all embarked on the journey of a lifetime, only to be part of one of the greatest maritime disasters of all time.8pm - 10pm: Béjart Ballet Lausanne: Ballet for Life at the Margaret Island Open-Air Stage
The founding father of Béjart Ballet Lusanne, Maurice Béjart, would turn 90 years old this year. Besides being an exceptional ballet dancer and choreographer, Béjart also created the “ballet of the 20th century” and this ballet ensemble remains as vibrant as ever, always impressing audiences with splendid spectacles. To commemorate Béjart, the ballet ensemble holds an exceptional performance on an open-air stage on Margaret Island on Friday. More details8pm - : Szabó Balázs Bandája at Kobuci Kert Balázs Szabó is a charming young Hungarian polymath; he is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, puppeteer, and storyteller. songs all have meaningful lyrics that stroke the depth of your soul, but even if you don’t understand what the songs are about, his presence on stage is captivating. If you are planning on seeing the concert of a Hungarian band, Szabó Balázs Bandája is the real deal this weekend.9pm - 5am: Tanz Global Vol. 4 at PONTOON Enjoy the breathtaking panorama to the Buda side and the Chain Bridge, the pleasant breeze on your skin after a sizzling hot summer day, and cold drinks at one of the coolest hangouts in Budapest, PONTOON. On Friday, Tom Select, Klayman, and Soundbank spin discs all night. More details10pm - 4:30am: NECC Party Necc of ’90s & ’00s at Budapest Park Don a co-ord, sassy socks, choker necklaces, or baggy pants and a baseball cap as the songs of Eminem, the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Bon Jovi, the Spice Girls, Blink 182, and other treasures from the ’90s trash bag will be back in town. Head to Budapest Park on Friday night, and “zig-a-zig-ah” with the coolest kids in town to the hottest hits of the ’90s.
Saturday

9am - 12pm: Bandha Brunch – Gastro-yoga at FiókaStart your Saturday early with an energizing yoga session! Hey, wait – don’t keep scrolling just yet, as we haven’t mentioned that there will also be a delicious brunch afterwards. Between 9am and 10:30am, enthusiastic yogis and beginners alike are warmly welcome to a sweaty ashtanga session, while from 10:30am everyone can indulge in various kinds of delicious bites while meeting like-minded people at a chilled-out hangout. Cruisin is back on board the Europa ship, presenting a truly special guest: Serge Devant. The New York-based producer leaves his summertime residence at Ibiza behind just to deliver you the greatest hits of the “island of dance”. To warm up properly, James Grow takes care of the beats as the boat passes under the beautiful bridges of Budapest, and afterwards Peter Makto presents a killer set of the purest, finest Truesounds tracks. More details6pm - 1am: Psychedelic Tropical Carnival at Kék Ló Pub Sequined flip-flops, glittery bikinis, cyclamen sunglasses, cocktail specialties, dancing, and an extravagant carnival atmosphere awaits everyone at this carefree and multicolored mini festival in the middle of the city. Those who come to this psychedelic tropical carnival wearing a costume get a welcome “sambodromo” shot, while those who wear a neon swimsuit get a “abrakadabra chupacabra”. Yaay to whatever that is! More details6:30pm - 11:59pm: Budapest Rooftop Cinema presents: Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets at Corvin Club
In the 28th century, special operatives Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) join forces to maintain order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the minister of defense, the duo embarks on a mission to Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis where diverse species gather to share knowledge and culture. When a dark force threatens the peaceful city, Valerian and Laureline must race against time to identify the menace that also jeopardizes the future of the universe.
Sunday

8pm - 10pm: Soweto Gospel Choir at the Margaret Island Open-Air Stage The uniquely colorful, Grammy-winning Soweto Choir comprises South Africa’s most heavenly voices, provided by more than 40 splendid singers. Merging African Gospel with spiritual, reggae, and American popular music, the performance of this charming choir not only promises a superb spectacle, but it is also unmatched in its musical richness. This year, they step on stage in Hungary for the first time ever as part of their 15th anniversary jubilee tour, and fill the alfresco theater of Margaret Island with amazing tunes on Sunday. 17th FINA World Championships – Swimming at Duna ArénaThis year’s FINA World Championships swimming competitions, including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and a combination of all four, individual medley kick off on Sunday at the Duna Aréna. Enjoy the big splash as professional swimmers plunge into the pool and cheer loudly for your favorites at competitions during July 23-30.9am - 2pm: Pancs Gasztroplacc at Élesztő
This weekly market – enhanced with a homey Hungarian ambience – boasts various cooking and entertainment shows to accompany the culinary jamboree, where up-and-coming vendors offer handmade delicacies, including tasteful vegan dips, cream cheese, and scrumptious vegan cakes, as well as crimson sausages and aromatic smoked meat for carnivorous guests. The market turns one year old this Sunday, holding several special surprises for this extraordinary day.5:30pm - 9pm: Salsa at Erzsébet Square
As the sun slowly starts sinking on Sunday evening, eager salsa dancers flood downtown’s Erzsébet Square, a central open space where people enjoy picnics and drinks while sitting in the grass. Feel free to join in if the boogie spirit hits you, but you can also come as a spectator to steal the best moves from these great dancers. The meeting point is by the fountain in front of the Budapest Eye.
