Art Market Budapest
Set up across a maze of viewing spaces, Central Europe’s premier showcase for contemporary art is held from 11-14 October at the Millenáris Park. Countless exhibitors from 40 countries come together to showcase and sell a vast collection of contemporary artworks, impressive paintings, sculptures, installations and photographs. An entire section and exhibition hall will be dedicated to the ever-evolving art of photography, providing a platform for one of the biggest international photo fairs in Central Europe. Budapest Design Week
From 5 to 19 October, Budapest turns into a gigantic showroom of Magyar-made fashion, furniture, artworks, architecture and much more, all on display at various venues citywide, ranging from major museums to hidden ateliers. Numerous events await art aficionados at autumn’s biggest design festival, from exhibition openings, kid’s activities and workshops, to all kinds of creative get-togethers. One of the most popular attractions each year is when various art studios hold open days, letting guests take a glimpse into the tips and tricks of making their products. CAFe Budapest Contemporary Arts Festival
Budapest’s annual cross-disciplinary arts festival, CAFe Budapest takes place between 5-21 October at various venues citywide. A wide variety of cutting-edge performances, concerts of many genres, contemporary-circus shows, visual art exhibitions, opera and theatre shows and dance productions, will be given, along with photography displays and countless other aesthetic attractions. These exciting events will be held at spectacular venues such as the Palace of Arts, the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, the Várkert Bazaar, the Vigadó, and at downtown locations such as the Budapest Music Center, the Akvárium Klub and Bálna Budapest. Chimney Cake Festival
Autumn’s most aromatic food festival celebrates Hungary’s traditional sugar-dusted pastry, chimney cake, during 12-14 October at the Gesztenyés-kert in District XII. Sprinkled with cinnamon, cocoa, walnut, coconut, vanilla and everything sweet, various versions of this tasty treat will be here for you to sample, while the festival also presents the age-old methods of preparing chimney cake from baking them over hot coals to frying them in oil. GusGus
Two years after their sold-out concert at the Akvárium Klub, GusGus return to Budapest on 20 October. Besides favourite hits like Over, Add This Song and Crossfade, the Icelandic electronic ensemble will be performing songs from their new album, Lies Are More Flexible, to the Budapest audience.

Sausage Festival
On 12-14 October, carnivorous crowds gather at the parkland of the Hungarian Railway Museum in Budapest’s District XIV to immerse in the peculiar countryside tradition of pig-slaughtering. Visitors can discover the country’s long-standing culinary customs while devouring a delicious feast of pork-based dishes. A shot (or more) of pálinka should help digest hefty meals. Family events, folklore shows, musical performances and presentations make the festival complete, while buses transport visitors back and forth between Nyugati station and the Railway Museum free of charge during opening hours. 33rd Spar Budapest Marathon
Join one of Budapest’s biggest outdoor jogging events, the Spar Budapest Marathon, with various competitions held on 6-7 October. On the first day of this annual attraction, joggers can warm up by completing short distances ranging from 400 metres to ten kilometres, while those in better physical condition can count the miles up to 26 and 385 yards on the second day. Don’t miss out on one last running gatherings before winter comes, passing the city’s most scenic settings such as Andrássy út and the Chain Bridge with hundreds of other enthusiastic runners. On 23 October, Hungarians commemorate the 1956 Revolution against Soviet occupation. In Budapest, an official flag-raising ceremony, political speeches and military processions take place on Kossuth Lajos tér by Parliament, while a number of cultural events are held nationwide. Normally on this day, the House of Terror Museum and Parliament grant free admission to visitors all day, and nostalgic streetcars travel on the line of tram 6.
