Bathe in beer inside-out
Going to the baths is a romantic idea already, but for a more private experience, head to Széchenyi’s private beer spa. Here you can try soaking in a blend of mineral-rich thermal water and the natural extracts used to brew beer (malts, hops, brewer’s yeast and barley). This unique combination stimulates the metabolism, helps remove harmful substances from the body, and eases fatigue, stress and hangovers. On top of that, you can pour and enjoy an unlimited amount of Czech beer on tap within reach of the tub and get all boozed up together while pampering your bodies. What could be better than bathing in beer inside out? To enter the BeerSpa, guests need a valid ticket for the Széchenyi Baths and a separate ticket for the suds-filled tubs. More details

Dine in complete darkness at Blind Bar
Blind Bar is a lightproof locale in District VI, where guests dine and wine amid complete darkness. This is one date destination where looks don’t matter, at least after arriving – diners literally can’t see anything, so everyone here has to rely on their four other senses. The dinner experience – which is entirely cutlery-free – is completely safe, as the waiters walk around with head-mounted night-vision goggles, and outside at the bar, the staff follows the events inside on a monitor. That’s what we call an out-of-sight date night! More details

Descend underground into the Pál-völgyi Cave
Don coveralls and flashlight-equipped helmets and take your sweetheart underground, descending deep into the Pál-völgyi cave system, a series of subterranean chambers spreading far beneath the Buda Hills. Led by an experienced English-speaking spelunker, caving groups crawl, climb and shimmy through tight tunnels to reach geologically fascinating caverns while negotiating steep underground cliffs and deep chasms, making this a truly adventurous date activity one that will surely leave lasting impressions (and possibly a few bruises – hey, love hurts); check out the official website for complete English-language details.

Get steamed up at a sauna on wheels
Steamed up in the sauna together wearing next to nothing is sexy. If you agree, try Valyo’s mobile sauna installed inside an old minibus that parks on a grassy riverfront expanse close to the southern terminus of Pest’s scenic tram 2 line. Here you can get your lover out of their clothes and enjoy the warmth of a wood fire while admiring sweeping Danube vistas and soothing wintry scenes from inside. Fill a thermos with cold drinks and enjoy 90 minutes of sweaty relaxation with your sweetheart. Bring swimsuits, towels, slippers and a confirmation of booking. More details

Get Tropical
If you had enough of the cold weather head for a stroll at the exotic Palm House at Budapest Zoo. Now showcasing both tropical plants and creatures from the American continent, the Palm House is home to spectacularly bright birds, alligators and baby geckos. Many visitors, happy to come in from the cold, first head for the aquarium downstairs, where a school of piranhas swim safely in unison within their own tank.

Have a lovely dinner date
Delicious dishes, your special someone and Budapest – a perfect recipe for romance, huh? A dinner is never a bad choice, and several dining destinations offer special Valentine’s Day dinner-date events on Wednesday with especially alluring meals and intoxicating beverages. Trust us, you’ll be in their good books as long as there is dessert involved. We recommend Baraka, Gerbeaud, Fricska, Dobrumba, Kiosk, Spoon and High Note Sky Bar, but there are endless options for dining on Valentine’s. Just don’t forget to book a table in advance. Play, play, play!
The night is guaranteed to be fun-filled if you play something together. While walking through Gozsdu Courtyard – which might be a good idea anyway for its many fun bars and restaurants – you can travel back in time to the ‘90s within minutes. At a small amusement arcade you and your partner can play many cool old-school coin-operated games such as Guitar Hero, basketball games, air hockey, shooting, driving and dancing games for about 100-300 HUF each. If you prefer board games though, you can head to Board Game Café or Game Up Pub where the shelves are stacked with age-old classics and more modern variations. Nothing brings you closer than some friendly competition.

Shoot real guns
If you’re looking for something a little more exciting, why not ditch the dinner table and start your special day with a bang? At Budapest’s high-caliber shooting ranges, you can pull the trigger on plenty of genuine guns, such as powerful pistols and revolvers such as a Desert Eagle or a Colt Single Action Army 1873, as well as rifles like a Colt M4, or a Kalashnikov AK-47. There are several shooting ranges to choose from, such as Celeritas Shooting Club, Erva Shooting Range and Top Gun Budapest, where you can unleash your inner alpha male and trigger attraction in the lady of your dreams under safe circumstances, as professional staff are there to help your shooting session go smoothly at all times. However, make sure you are not arguing with your loved one before teaching her how to fire a shotgun!
