Technika#1 (Closed)
At the fully-equipped workshop of Hello Wood, we can create useful and decorative gifts out of lumber in the course of a woodworking crash course led by professional handymen. At the various workshops of Technika, we can learn basic carpentry skills, create something unique and handmade out of wood chunks, or even renovate old and used furniture. Guests can learn everything from how to hold a saw through drilling to putting together a complete bird feeder, a tray, or a bedside table. Considering that Christmas is slowly approaching, they also hold courses where we can make Christmas trees, or small wooden pieces that can be Christmas presents. If you prefer working individually or with your own group of friends, you can contact Technika’s team and arrange a private workshop, where you can make a truly self-designed wooden piece.

Enhance plain pottery with dreamlike designs
Places where we can paint dreamlike designs on plain pottery are aplenty in Budapest, awaiting both beginners and handicraft experts. At MadeByYou’s two units – found on both sides of the Danube – guests can pick a piece from the abundant assortment of more than 100 different shapes, including mugs, plates, jars, teapots, vases, and many more, and enhance it with their own self-designed patterns and vibrant colors amid an inspirational and tranquil atmosphere. There are several pre-designed patterns, samples, stencils, and catalogues available at the workshops to boost your creativity, and the friendly staff is also glad to help or inspire potters anytime. To make this therapeutic session even more pleasant, they also offer guests a cup of tea or lemonade. After the potteries are painted, you have to leave them in the shop for a few days to let them get a glaze and a kiln-firing before returning to collect them.
We can also paint ceramics in the same way at Kaméleon, found on Lónyay Street, near Corvinus University, while Apacuka offers ceramics-making workshops, where we can also make the ceramics from clay before decorating them. (Unfortunately, Apacuka’s workshops are full for the rest of this year.)
Opening hours: Monday-Friday: 1pm-9pm; Saturday-Sunday: 10am-6pm

Paint with a twist
PaintCocktail holds regular painting sessions in Budapest, helping everyone with a thirst for art – both novices and professional painters – to create amazing wall art they can proudly hang up at home, or at this time of the year give to someone special for Christmas. At these small-group painting sessions, an experienced and skillful local artist guides the class step-by-step through every aspect of the night’s featured artwork, helping everyone individually to replicate a prominent painting from the first strokes to the last touches amid a stress-free, friendly, supportive, and social setting. To increase the fun factor, visitors can also awaken their inner-muse to ignite their creative spark with some tasty tipples, as PaintCocktail’s events are always hosted by a Budapest bar that offers heavenly cocktail concoctions. When guests arrive, an empty canvas and paint in all kinds of colors are already set up, so all we have to do is put on an apron, sit back, and sip on cool cocktails while expressing ourselves on canvas.

Weave a stylish scarf
Stepping into Budapest’s downtown Weaving Studio (called Belvárosi Szövöde), we find ourselves surrounded by vivid colors, vibrant skeins, and endless balls of fluffy fabric everywhere our eyes wander, found all around several looms in various sizes that tempt artistic souls to weave something warm for wintertime. If you’d like to interlace your favorite colors in order to create a unique and personal present, as well as learn basic weaving techniques, you can sign up for a course that lasts between three and seven hours – in three hours you can make something small (about the size of a tea towel), while in seven hours you can create a complete scarf. Here, you can create amid a supportive and social setting, where you are provided all the necessary tools, and as much help as you may need for making a dreamy design.
Opening hours: Monday-Friday: 11am-6pm; Saturday-Sunday: closed
