Earth Festival at the Budapest Zoo
The Budapest Zoo hosts their educational Earth Festival during April 20-24. Various organizations will be there with fun games (and a lot of knowledge), including representatives of Hungary’s national parks, and other nature- and animal-friendly associations. The Confucius Institute will also be there with interesting programs about Chinese culture, including kung fu demonstrations and some heavenly green-tea tasting.

A picturesque ode to the planet
A new photo exhibition displaying the astonishing works of Imre Farkas, who has traveled around some of the most magical places on the planet, opens on April 21st, kick-starting the lineup of Earth Day celebrations. By buying the exhibited photographs you can support the Hungarian Earth Day Foundation.

Plant a tree
The global theme of Earth Day this year is called “Trees for the Earth”. Every year billions of trees are cut down, leading to serious consequences in both local and global terms. Fortunately, it only takes a few minutes to plant a baby tree to help replace thinning forests: you can do this by yourself, or join a community – for example, on April 22nd you can join the Hungarian Earth Day Foundation in Budaörs (just south of Buda) for a public tree-planting ceremony.

Get artsy on Earth Day
This program is for those who would like to let the environment inspire their inner artist – and what a fine activity it is to do on the day of appreciation towards Mother Nature. You can try to capture the breathtaking view of the sun setting over the Buda Hills with the art implements provided, or you can bring your own equipment. With the skyline changing every minute, this happening promises a glorious showcase of Earth’s beauty.

ZöldMag Festival
Just a day after Earth Day, this festival is all about being environmentally friendly. During this all-day-long event there will be plenty of things to do: you can shop at the farmers’ market, make unique eco-friendly things at the creative workshops, or taste delicious green cocktails. Szentendre Earth Day celebration
Just a short journey up the Danube from Budapest, the picturesque town of Szentendre is hosting an Earth Day celebration that is well worth the trip. Only about a 30-minute HÉV-train ride away from Budapest, the lovely town of Szentendre awaits visitors with fun games, pony rides, and heavenly artisanal bites from a local manufactory. I Bike Budapest
If you are already one of those who cut back on polluting the air by traveling on a bicycle, , the locally beloved springtime bicycling festival, might just be the best program for you, even though it falls a day after Earth Day. Lift up your bike at the end of the ride surrounded by the beauty of - which is a vivid showcase of Mother Earth’s beauty.

Take personal action
Although this is not an actual event (however, you could easily turn it into one), you can personally take action in order to put some pressure on world leaders so they will sign the Paris Agreement and take responsibility to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. Who knows, maybe your signature will raise the heat just enough for the powers-that-be to act before it’s too late. More details here.
