Fish and Wild Meat Festival

Budapest’s first-ever celebration dedicated to nature’s smorgasbord takes place September 19-21 amid the grounds of City Park’s picturesque Vajdahunyad Castle, featuring varied dishes of succulent game like pheasant, venison, wild boar, rabbit, and other meats free of added agents or hormones. Meanwhile, regional fish caught from rivers and lakes are prepared with myriad recipes – including spicy traditional Hungarian fish soup – as an excellent selection of local wines, beers, and pálinka brandy complement every hearty bite. Various Magyar-made crafts are available in addition to fine foodstuffs to take home (including truffles, wild garlic, honey, and much more). Admission free – www.facebook.com/halesvadfesztival

Főzdefeszt + Street Food Show

Combining two spectacular fare affairs into one gigantic movable feast, the craft-beer aficionados of Főzdefeszt again team up with the groovy gourmets of the Street Food Show to create a flavorful open-air fair along Hungary’s grandest boulevard on September 20 and 21. Spanning the entire stretch of Andrássy Avenue from Nagymező Street to Bajcsy-Zsilinszky (by Erzsébet Square), this cool congregation of edible excitement features a selection of stands manned by Budapest restaurateurs offering big burgers, savory sausages, fried fish, and many other transportable treats; meanwhile, artisanal suds are poured in profusion by plenty of purveyors offering ales, lagers, stouts, and porters.
