Jewish Budapest Tour – Synagogue Tour
This unique tour will let you have a glance into the past and present of the Hungarian Jewish community. You are able to visit those places and happenings that influenced the everyday life of Jews in the flowering and devastating decades of the 20th century. The Dohány Street Synagogue is the biggest of all Jewish buildings. The increasing numbers of the 19th century Jewish community made it possible to establish this beautiful house of prayer. The building managed to maintain its importance even in the Second World War or in the dark years of the communist era. Two onion-shaped domes sit on the two towers at 44 m height each. The huge aisles inside are large enough to hold almost three thousand people.
Our next stop is the wonderful Jewish Museum, where you are able to see some basic everyday objects of individuals besides the religious relics. There is a special room for showing the discriminative Jewish Laws that were in force between 1938 and 1945. You can also see Holocaust and the liberation here. The Jewish Cemetery in the courtyard of the Synagogue reminds us of the terrible incidents of the Second World War. After a short walk in the Jewish district, our tour ends in the orthodox quarter where you can enjoy a real kosher meal, or you can visit the Orthodox Church.
