Opened at the end of 2017, Paletta Budapest is saying goodbye after almost exactly eight years. The venue will welcome guests with its usual opening hours until January 4, before reopening one last time for a farewell party on January 10.

Eight years ago, in the final weeks of the year, Paletta Budapest opened on Tompa Street in Ferencváros, bringing a touch of Lake Balaton’s laid-back atmosphere to the capital. Beyond its food and drinks, the venue also became known for organising a wide range of community and cultural events over the years.

At the bistro led by Dani Bezerics, both indoors and on the terrace, numerous themed evenings, street parties, markets and concerts were held, often creating a truly Mediterranean atmosphere that had a positive impact on the surrounding area as well. Over the past years, Tompa Street and nearby Ferenc Square have become some of the most popular spots in the 9th district – a transformation in which Paletta played an undeniable role.

Saying goodbye to Paletta

Unfortunately, it hasn’t been an easy year for Paletta. Back in April, it was already announced that after 12 years and 13 seasons, the Balatonboglár location would not reopen in 2025. Later, the Budapest Paletta Bistro also changed both its concept and name, becoming Pizza Paletta – a move that, sadly, still wasn’t enough to secure its future. As they wrote in their Facebook post on 29 December:

We love this place deeply. The Tompa Street community. The linden tree that changes with every season. Still, our inner compass has been telling us for some time now: the moment has come to close this chapter.

What's next?

As far as Paletta is concerned, they will welcome guests with their usual opening hours until 4 January, followed by a final farewell event on 10 January. But the end of something can also mark the beginning of something new – and that will be the case here too, as it has also been revealed that

Dani bezerics and his team will return to ferenc square in mid-may with a new venue, opening in the former Réteskék location.

In the meantime, you can still meet them nearby at Tompa17, while Paletta’s signature aspics and doughnuts will be available at Pancs markets until March.
