This summer, tram 19 transforms into a tourist-friendly attraction for sightseers on the central section of its river-hugging route between Margaret Bridge and Móricz Zsigmond körtér on the Buda side. Major landmarks either side of the river – Parliament, the Rudas Baths, Chain Bridge – will be pointed out and described in English, as well as notable cafés along trendy Bartók Béla út. The service is free to use for ticket- and passholders, and runs every weekend until the end of August.

The Buda equivalent of celebrated tram 2 in Pest, tram 19 follows the Danube past essential sights, including the Várkert Bazár beneath Buda Castle, the Rudas Baths and the Hotel Gellért.

In a bid to popularise this route as a tourist attraction, announcements will be given in English and Hungarian concerning the historic sights and major landmarks travellers can see from the window.

The service runs between 10am-noon and 3pm-5pm every weekend up to 28 August. For more details, see here. Trams are integrated into the standard timetable and no special tickets are required.
