A Christmas market has been set up on central Deák tér as part of the Advent fun around Budapest. Festive lights, cinnamon aromas and the warmth of mulled wine surround the gastronomic delights, international street food dishes replacing the regular Yuletide offerings.

Around main Deák Ferenc tér, cups of mulled wine are being clinked on the terrace of Fröccsterasz rather than spritzers in glasses, as the Winter Food Fest Christmas market unfolds. Here, organisers give a twist to the standard festive hustle and bustle. With Christmas mainstays available elsewhere around town, the teams from Mazel Tov, Tereza and the 101Bistro are showcasing their gastro alliance, shaking up whatever you may have thought before about Advent fairs.

La Cabina, the little brother of Mexican street-food spot Tereza, offers roast tomato soup and torn piglet quesadilla. And their chili con carne is unmissable, a real warm-you-up.

Mazel Tov
has brought flavours of the Middle East and a few spoons of Morocco to the Winter Food Fest. You can choose from their vegan lentil soup, lamb-flavoured, spicy-ginger Moroccan harira ragout and their special Reuben sandwich.

Those who can’t even imagine winter gatherings of friends and feasts without smoked meat can take a look at what the Smoke Riders team has to offer. From Széll Kálmán tér, the 101Bistro, which focuses on Taiwanese specialities in contemporary garb, has come over to Pest.

On the dessert front, you can look forward to chimney cakes both traditional and unusual by Chimney Cake. made according to an old family recipe. In addition to the basics, a stuffed pistachio-cream version has been created for the Winter Food Fest.
