With the scaffolding all but dismantled, the new roof of Nyugati station should soon be ready, a key stage of a major renovation due for completion this September.

The major renovation of Nyugati station has just taken a step nearer completion with the removal of the scaffolding holding up the new roof.

Meanwhile, specialists are still working on the frame, restorers are renovating the wall skirting, new lights have been installed and the basilica-style windows are still being glazed.

The roof of the platform hall, the connecting glass structures, the ticket office, the fast-food area and six façade towers are also being renovated, over a space more than 8,200 square metres in size.

At each end of the building, the glass walls are also undergoing a complete overhaul, repairing several parts of the station roof that have never yet been renovated.

The storm-water drainage will be partially rebuilt, as well as a new digital passenger information system and an overhead line network in the platform hall.

Also with passengers in mind, the currently inoperative lift and entire paving will be replaced, the passenger areas of the underpass will be renewed, ramps will be built and a so-called tactile lane will be installed for the blind and partially sighted.

The official unveiling will be in September.
