After the relative lifting of border restrictions in June, Hungary is now imposing strict controls on all foreigners arriving into the country from 1 September. Exemptions will be made for diplomats, military personnel and certain transit passengers.
It is not yet clear how this will affect sportsmen – Budapest is due to stage the prestigious European Super Cup between Bayern Munich and Sevilla on 24 September.
To avoid a mandatory 14-day quarantine, Hungarians returning home must prove they have had two negative Covid-19 tests, 48 hours apart.
