Surrounded by a terrace overlooking a well-kept garden in bucolic Normafa, sunlight pours into a living room with a huge play area. This is the setting for a mother-and-baby café, where young mums sip coffee or a smoothie while their little ones play on the carpet. Here Éva Pataki Nagy and Zsófia Martos shared with us the concept of the BodzaVilla.

According to Éva, operations at the Bodza Villa will be broken down into three main areas: a nursery, parental tuition (which can be attended with babies and toddlers) and foreign-language childcare activities, in great demand among expat residents of Budapest.

The first two are familiar territory. Éva ran the Ma Mi Workshop in Gazdagrét, District XI, which has now moved here to Normafa. Provided with a play corner, the lecture room will host talks on many aspects of child care, positive discipline, story therapy and time management, as well as independence and self-awareness training, relationship counselling and legal advice.

Zsófi, who runs the private crèche for three groups of up to seven children, oversaw a family nursery in District IX for many years. From February, an English-language nursery will be run on the first floor, where special, development-oriented PlanToys, Djeco, Wobble playthings are scattered around. Most are made of wood or recycled materials, underlining environmental awareness and sustainability.

This privately owned villa was previously occupied by a French family and was completely reconfigured by Éva and Zsófi, who rent it out. As if everything had been put in place precisely for their needs, there are pools in the garden and in the basement, where a baby swim is planned. They can also install a gym downstairs, with a baby sauna and a colour therapy salt-sandpit earmarked for the other space.

According to Éva and Zsófi, the question is not whether busy mums will head up to Normafa – they used to come from outside Budapest, Vecsés and Százhalombatta, to the Ma Mi Workshop in District XI. Experience dictates that when it comes to activities they can enjoy with their offspring, mums are mobile.

The villa has been equipped with everything mothers of children aged up to four would need, from a milk machine and crib to a pouch sling, baby food and a kitchen. Mums can combine a visit with other activities, as here in the hills they can go hiking, walking or strolling with a pram.

The villa is run by an expert team of 18 with coaches, trainers and educators who are all mothers themselves. And in the baby-friendly café on the ground floor, anyone can sit down for a coffee, rest their legs or snack on something.

The Bodza Villa currently has open days up to and including this Friday, 17 January, to allow parents to have a look around before an English-language crèche is offered on weekday mornings (8am-noon) from February. Email bolcsi@bodzavilla.hu.
