Seasonal gifts, eats and treats line the many stalls.

10am – 6pm: Left Turn, Right Turn at the Blinken OSA Archívum Friday and Saturday are the last chance to see Left Turn, Right Turn, an exhibition that explores the role art played in opposing the Socialist system. Orfeo was a local manifestation of the 1968 movements around the world, while the Inconnu group shifted from the underground art scene of the 1970s toward expressing more open and direct dissent, allied with the political opposition of the 1980s. All takes place at the Centrális Galéria on downtown Arany János utca.

11am – 8pm: Birthday sale at the Typo Showroom To celebrate the first anniversary, the Typo Showroom on Krúdy Gyula utcais discounting their fashionable items over two days from today. Apart from the sale, visitors can also enjoy Tolo’s DJ set from 4pm.

Plant expert Balázs Zsolnai leads visitors through the greenery of the glasshouses, and again on 12 January. Though given in Hungarian, the tour should shed light on a little-known city attraction deep in District VIII.

10am – 3pm: Budapest Bagel Brunch with Géza Talabér at Budapest Bägel Buda Discover another side to photographer Géza Talabér as he prepares a carnivorous Saturday brunch at Budapest Bägel Buda on the Grand Boulevard. Sunday

11am – 5pm:Conscious Design Market at the Murok Café Sustainable products take the spotlight at the Conscious Design Market at the Murok Café, where you will be able to touch, smell, feel and buy unique products and meet the designers in person. Everything will be half-price, with performances by bands and DJs, including the Dynamite Dudes and Pisti Gubányi.

8pm – 10pm: American Beauty at the Bem cinema Despite all the later controversy surrounding its Oscar-winning lead, Kevin Spacey, American Beauty remains a modern-day classic and a remarkable directorial debut on the part of Sam Mendes. Shown here to celebrate its 20th anniversary, this domestic drama plays out in the suburbs, where a marriage break-up and a mid-life crisis turn dull lives to tragedy. Great soundtrack, too. Screened in English with Hungarian subtitles.

8pm – 11pm: WIVES at the Dürer Kert The quite wonderful WIVES hark back to the glory days of the Pixies, conjuring cranked-up post-punk noise and witty lyricism from Queens. Queens as in The Ramones. Formed by DIIV guitarist Andrew Bailey and fronted by Jay Beach, this quartet have just released their first album, So Removed, and now take it on the road. The Budapest leg is being hosted by the A38 Ship but staged in the small hall of the Dürer Kert – those lucky enough to be here should brace themselves for an intimate aural onslaught.
