Steps from central Deák tér, a newly built pop-up park is ready to welcome passers-by to chill on colourful wave-shaped wooden seats. Designed by the creative crew of Hello Wood, this bright recreation zone makes lazing around cooler than ever.

“We enjoy using design to give a new function to abandoned public places,” said Dávid Ráday, co-founder and architect at Hello Wood. This rainbow-coloured pop-up park certainly breathes new life into Városháza Park, a cobblestoned square in the heart of Budapest. This underused square should now fill with activity as it opens its sun-splashed space to this creative recreation zone, accessed free of charge.

Palm plants and olive trees add a Mediterranean touch, while triangle-shaped covers provide shade by day. There’s also ping-pong and a table for Teqball, developed here in Hungary, a combination of table tennis and football. A new street-workout facility with a rubber floor also features.
