Friday

9:30am - : Chimney Cake Festival at Holnemvolt Vár

Children’s entertainment complex Holnemvolt Vár awaits families with various kinds of chimney cakes (kürtőskalács) over the weekend. Anyone can try this traditional Hungarian treat, with gluten- and milk-free versions, and many flavours available. Besides the sweet treats, concerts and children’s activities also feature.

10am - : Vegan Food Fest by the Allee shopping mall

An outdoor culinary festival takes place outside the Allee shopping mall throughout the weekend. Vegan Food Fest showcases delicacies made without adding any animal products, along with cruelty-free cosmetics and other merchandise.

1pm - : Mihalik x UNICEF Pop Up Store at H&M

On Friday and Saturday, you can meet Hungarian supermodel Enikő Mihalik at the Deák Ferenc Street H&M store. She will be selling clothes, donated by her and other Hungarian celebrities. All proceeds go to support the NGO UNICEF’s work for children in need. To shop, first register on this link.

4pm - : Corvin Beer Festival at the Corvin Promenade

An open-air beer festival takes place on the pedestrianised street behind the Corvin mall. More than 20 exhibiting vendors purvey unique brews from all around the world. Street-food booths also feature.

11:30pm - : Midnight Music at Várkert Bazaar

A regular event at the Várkert Bazaar, Midnight Music is an informal classical music concert series held late at night, where guests can enjoy the melodies while sitting comfortably on beanbags. On Friday, the band, led by conductor Iván Fischer, play Bruckner’s Symphony No.4. Saturday

10am - : Day of Birds and Trees at Kazinczy utca

On Saturday, Budapest’s busy Kazinczy utca hosts a colourful car-free carnival, the Day of Birds and Trees. Almost all of the street’s restaurants, clubs, bars and cafés join forces to celebrate nature in the middle of the city. The not-so-secret aim of this family-friendly street festival is to show how lovely it would be if Kazinczy could be permanently transformed into a more liveable and greener promenade for pedestrians and cyclists alone. Breakfasts, concerts, photo shoots and children’s attractions entertain crowds here all day.

Noon - 7pm: Markett at Big Lumen

A monthly design fair takes place at Lumen on Saturday. Markett is organised by independent Hungarian designers such as the girls of Müskinn and Rebu Ceramics, who set it up as a collective showcase for their products and to promote talented young artists. If you’re looking for creative, unique gifts or something to surprise yourself with, make sure to drop by.

6:30pm - Spring Reggae Jam at ELLÁTÓház

Hungarian reggae band Ladánybene 27 hold a day linked to this musical genre at ruin bar Ellátóház. Alongside, CéAnne & The Magic Pineapple and Afrodzaqm will also play reggae tunes. After the concerts, three DJs from Low and Loud Records will get the afterparty going.

7:30pm - : Folk Dance House Day at the Franz Liszt Music Academy

The Franz Liszt Music Academy celebrates Hungarian folk culture and the tradition of dance houses with a folk concert and two prestigious award ceremonies. The event is traditionally staged on the anniversary of the first urban dance house in Hungary, 11 May,

8pm - : Bohemian Betyars x Parno Graszt at Kobuci Kert

Popular folk-inspired Hungarian bands play at Kobuci Kert on Saturday evening. While Bohemian Betyars fuse Hungarian folk elements with punk, Parno Graszt play traditional Gypsy songs. Their aim is to involve young Hungarians and preserve musical heritage, while also getting the audience up on their feet.

Sunday

7am - : Europe Day at Szabadság tér

On Sunday, a free event celebrating European peace and unity takes place on Szabadság tér. Family activities, concerts and a running race await participants.

5pm - Al Di Meola at MOM Kult

Grammy award-winning guitarist Al Di Meola has collaborated with the biggest musicians in rock and jazz, such as Frank Zappa, Jimmy Page, Stevie Wonder and Herbie Hancock. He plays the MOMKult on Sunday with songs from his new album Opus.

5pm - : Some Like It Hot at the Bem Cinema

Billy Wilder's 1959 black-and-white American romantic comedy with Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis is back on the big screen at the Bem Cinema on Sunday. Original audio and Hungarian subtitles.
