Our regular round-up for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do and who should not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals and more – but here is our pick of the bunch:

Friday

3pm - : Dunapest Festival at various venues

The Dunapest Festival is an important forum for cultural and artistic conversation in the capital. All events are held on the banks of the Danube, providing the perfect backdrop, an open yet intimate atmosphere. Musical, literary and other cultural events await visitors all weekend. More details

7pm - : Budapest Short International Film Festival at various venues

The annual Budapest Short International Film Festival provides a showcase for young aspiring artists of the short-film genre to make their mark on the international scene. A selection of mini movies –  64 short films, including 43 fictional, 16 animated and five experimental films – screen this weekend in their original language and with English subtitles at various venues. 7pm - : Cc:disco! at PONTOON

Cc:disco!, aka Courtney Clarke, is a Melbourne-based DJ who first joined the world of music with her own radio programme at the age of 15. Her sets are mostly built on disco, hence the name, and her motto is “Less chin stroking, more dancing”. Sore feet are guaranteed the next day.

7pm - : Night of the Zoos at various venues

On Friday, the annual Night of the Zoos event offers unique tours around Budapest Zoo and, on the city outskirts, Budakeszi Zoo and the Tropicarium. As evening turns to night, special events feature, including guided walks and show feeding of alligators and snakes. All three zoos join forces to welcome crowds with a combined ticket valid at all of these lively attractions.

11pm - : Selected Sounds: Laurel Halo at Toldi Klub

The Michigan-born, Berlin-based producer, Laurel Halo, has laid down new rules over the ten years of her musical career. She works with distorted shredded vocals, glitched drums, hints of free jazz, and basically any technique or sound that proves that experimental music hasn’t reached its limits yet. The last night of summer at the Toldi Klub should surely be exceptional.

Saturday

7am - Budapest Urban Games at various venues

People swimming across the Danube, racing each other up to the Citadel. competing at streetball and enjoying five-a-side football games. This is the Budapest Urban Games, a popular one-day event taking place on Saturday, with exciting sports eventsaround the city. 8am – 2pm: Czakó Piacz at Czakó Kert

Czakó Piac is a farmers’ market full of friendly vendors, awaiting visitors in the lovely garden of an old Hungarian peasant house on the Buda side. Stalls offer organic products, vegetables, eggs, mouthwatering meats, handcrafted cheeses, wild mushrooms and countless unique specialities that are not available elsewhere in the capital. The chef at Czakó Kert prepares breakfast and lunchfrom the delicacies available here while the market is open.

10am - 10pm: CityMatiné S07E07: Big in Japan at Palatinus

CityMatiné, pioneers of daytime parties in Budapest, fill Palatinus lido on Saturday with music and delicious drinks. Good news for sake aficionados – the theme is Japan.

10pm - : Dîner en Blanc at a top secret location

The world-famous Dîner en Blanc alfresco chic picnic prompts gourmet crowds around the world to don a snow-white outfit for the night and dine out side-by-side at a secret scenic city location – which is kept under wraps until just before the event begins. This super elegant event annually welcomes the Budapest elite, their guests and those who make it from the waiting list for a night to never forget, somewhere utterly special in the city. Look out for people dressed in all white.

11pm - : Alt Bookings Showcase at Lärm

With the autumn coming, the organisers at Lärm have decided to bring a slice of Latin America to the dancehall. Alt Bookings is a music agency based in São Paulo led by Amanda Mussi, who recently debuted at Berghain with great success. She is accompanied by Ingmar B, infusing hip hop and club music, and Victoria Mussi, playing an eclectic mix of Detroit techno, acid electro and classic house.

Sunday

9am-2pm: Szimpla Farmers’ Breakfast at Szimpla

One of the most popular ruin pubs in Budapest – Szimpla on Kazinczy utca – fills every Sunday with a friendly artisanal farmers’ market, where you can buy high-quality locally made goods and fresh produce. Szimpla selects the best ingredients from the stalls and makes a delicious brunch out of them. Meet friendly local growers after trying dishes made from their products.

10am - : Thai Festival at the Vajdahunyad Castle

On Sunday, a special venue – the sylvan setting of Budapest’s Vajdahunyad Castle – introduces guests to the culture, gastronomy and traditions of the Land of Smiles. Authentic Thai treats, dance performances and shows make you feel like you are on Khaosan Road.

5pm – : DJ Palotai: Sunday Sessions at A38

Lie back on the bow terrace of the A38 Ship with a cold drink in your hand, watch the sun set over the Danube and listen to the sweet sounds of music. Sounds like the perfect Sunday evening, right? We have good news for you: cult Hungarian DJ, Palotai will be spinning every Sunday, mixing everything from house music to drum ‘n’ bass. The event, just like all parties in the Orrterasz ’18 series, is free.
