Our regular round-up for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do and who should not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals and more – but here is our pick of the bunch:

Friday

8pm - : Bernstein100 – An American in Paris on Margaret Island

This month 100 years ago, Leonard Bernstein was born and more than 2,000 events are being held around the world to celebrate the life of one of America’s greatest composers and conductors. Also forming part of the Budapest Summer Festival at the Margaret Island Open-Air Stage, Bernstein100 – An American in Paris showcases the suite from the Oscar-winning musical West Side Story, and pieces by Gershwin, performed by the Hungarian State Opera House Orchestra.

9pm - 11:30pm: Inglourious Basterds at the Bem Cinema

It is the first year of Germany's occupation of France. Allied officer Lt Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) assembles a team of Jewish soldiers to commit violent acts of retribution against the Nazis, including the taking of their scalps. He and his men join forces with Bridget von Hammersmark, a German actress and undercover agent, to bring down the leaders of the Third Reich. Their fates converge with theatre owner Shosanna Dreyfus, who seeks to avenge the Nazi execution of her family. Quentin Tarantino's war movie screens with original English audio and Hungarian subtitles.

9:30pm - : Lana Del Rey at Sziget

On Friday night, dream pop diva Lana Del Rey hits the main stage at Sziget, one of the only two festivals on her tour schedule. On Saturday Mumford and Sons, while on Sunday Dua Lipa, are the headliners, but many more exciting events and attractions await visitors at one of Europe's biggest festivals. More details Saturday

8am – 2pm: Czakó Piacz at Czakó Kert

A farmers’ market full of friendly vendors awaits visitors in the lovely garden of an old Hungarian peasant house, bringing the atmosphere of the countryside to Budapest. Stalls offer organic products, vegetables, eggs, mouthwatering meats, handcrafted cheeses, wild mushrooms and countless unique specialities unavailable elsewhere in the capital. The chef at Czakó Kert prepares breakfast and lunchfrom the delicacies on sale here while the market is open.

8pm - : Akov at A38

In August, scores of cool concerts will be rocking the A38 Ship, a repurposed Ukrainian cargo vessel that is today one of the hottest hangouts in Budapest. On Saturday, currently Vienna-based UK DJ Akov rocks the boat with drum ‘n’ bass beats, backed by Disprove from Italy.

10am – 11pm: POOL&BEER at the Vituki Strand

Perfectly poured beer, frosty spritzers, a pool, burgers and music from morning till eve. This is POOL&BEER,a regular beach party series. At least once a month, they fill Vituki Beach with fun and music that even make palm trees sprout in Budapest’s District IX.
Sunday

Noon - 8pm:Buda Vinyl Fair at Tinta Art Café Occupying the community space, music venue, gallery and pub, the Tinta Art Café, the Buda Vinyl Fair allows collectors and music fans to browse through priceless platters while listening to the sounds of the pre-download era. Budapest is awash with unusual treasure – you might just find that rare Beatles release on Soviet Melodiya.

2pm – 10pm: Budapest Comic Market at Budapest Park

Live music, Cosplay, workshops, street-food stalls and personal appearances accompany the second Budapest Comic Market this season, staged at Budapest Park. Most of the day is taken up with the serious business of buying, selling and exchanging comics

5pm - : Purci Dance Party II/High on Fire at Dürer Kert 

From late afternoon, the Dürer Kert celebrates its tenth anniversary with six bands from America, Sweden and Italy, headlined by High on Fire out of Oakland, California. Fronted by Matt Pike, stoner metallists HoF will soon bring out their tenth studio album, Electric Messiah, which they will tour across the States in the autumn. Main support here is provided by Victims, crust punks from Nyköping, Sweden.
