A tour aboard Redjet is no romantic glide down the Danube. First the engine starts with a GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!, then your adrenaline hits the roof and you hold on to dear life. Okay, it is not that extreme, but it is not for the faint-hearted. Redjet operates with a Japanese Yanmar engine that hits 80kph in seconds, and turns 360° before you can even let out a good scream. Similar boats are used for gentle jaunts around the Med, but here in Budapest, the Danube provides the perfect course, which makes the experience all the more special, the banks lined with splendid landmarks.
There are two very experienced captains on board, who use hand signals to let you know when you need to hold on tight before a 360° turn underneath the Chain Bridge or a splashy skid. Great music accompanies your journey, but the engine’s loud noise and your laughs and screams leave most of it to your imagination.
Just like at a cinema, you can reserve your seat online, precisely selecting where you would like to sit in the 12-seater. This way, you don’t have to find 11 other extreme friends, you can just join a group as Redjet operates with fixed tours. But if you’d like to get all crazy together with your friends, that is also possible.
Show up 20 minutes before your tour starts to leave enough time for putting on waterproof gear and a life vest. The vest is compulsory, the waterproof clothing isn’t, but trust us, you will get soaking wet. There is no age limit, but you need to be at least four feet high to board, while under-16s need an adult with them. You can leave all your belongings in lockers in the office, which we highly recommend as phones and cameras can be very easily be lost to the waves. A GoPro on the front of the boat records your whole journey anyway and the fun footage will be sent to you within 48 hours after your tour.
A tour on Redjet is 7,000 forints per person for half an hour, which includes briefing and docking.
