Norbert and Zsolt first tried out the hospitality trade in Keszthely, an open-air party venue and cocktail bar at Lake Balaton. Norbi also used to make regular detours to Vienna, where he worked at a bar specializing in English and Irish beers.
That was seven years ago. The brothers Csonka then decided to work in Budapest, at the Felni beer bistro on Jókai utca, specializing in Czech and craft brews. After this was sold, they realized that they would like open a smaller business, a place where they could advise customers on beer choices and have a glass put in front of them in next to no time.

Transforming the previous outlet, Szkíta, meant tearing it down over the course of a whole month and creating an entirely new, neat interior. During this time Zsolt, responsible for the food, conceived of a menu with seven kinds of hamburger (2,000-3,000 HUF with complimentary steak potatoes), beer snacks and the house specialty of beef goulash, prepared as taught by his grandmother, accompanied with pogácsa scones instead of bread.
The beers on tap change continually, while their categories remain consistent. ‘The aim is to change all 12 beers at least once a week,’ says Norbi. In evidence on this visit were Fehér Nyúl Imperial Stout, RothBeer Remote Galaxy, Mad Scientist Smooth Hoperator, and Yellow Haze from the Brew Your Mind stable.

On the list of bottled beers are Belgian varieties plus by the bottle, plus Hübris, Fóti and Békésszentandrási.
Don’t be fooled by what seems to be a small interior – there’s much more room in a separate area.
