Nearly ten years ago, three friends with extensive hospitality experience - including Ferenc Varsányi, who played a key role in the creation of Opera Gin - opened Hotsy Totsy Budapest on Síp Street. Back then, the founders poured everything they had into making their dream a reality, with one of them even contributing an inheritance from his grandmother. The result was a hidden speakeasy-style cocktail bar inspired by Prohibition-era America, where inventive drinks and a secretive atmosphere quickly earned a loyal following. Last year, the team received major international recognition when Top 500 Bars ranked Hotsy Totsy as the 267th best bar in the world. With growing popularity among both local and international cocktail lovers, expansion soon became the natural next step.
This is how Lilith Budapest came to life on Rumbach Sebestyén Street, just a few steps away from Hotsy Totsy Budapest. But this is where the more down-to-earth side of hospitality ends: with the same creativity the team is known for, Lilith effortlessly pulls guests into a world far removed from everyday reality. The bar's name already hints at the powerful feminine energy behind the concept. The figure of Lilith first appeared in Sumerian mythology, while Jewish legends later described her as Adam's first companion and wife - a woman unwilling to accept a subordinate role to man, choosing independence over obedience instead.
