Online Hungarian photo archive Fortepan has just released a series of vintage photos from the collection of the Hungarian Museum of Technology and Transport. This trove of more than 1,000 photos covers most of the 20th century, following the advances in traffic development. Ships, trams, racing cars, even Zeppelins, a whole world of motion is featured, as well as the celebrities of the day: pre-war UK statesman Neville Chamberlain, Hungarian aviation engineer Oszkár Asbóth and Hungary’s pioneering pilot György Endresz, who died in a plane crash in 1932.

Below is a selection of the best photographs from the recently released archive, a digital co-operation between Fortepan and the Museum of Transport. Highlights include atmospheric scenes around Óbuda Shipyard, images from the archive of Oszkár Asbóth, considered the inventor of the helicopter, and others from the collection of Géza Kolbányi, who created airplane motors in the early 1900s.
