Budapest and surroundings offer a whole new world in winter. Historic ornate baths become shrouded in steam, prominent public areas are transformed into open-air skating rinks and the cultural life of Hungary’s capital is busier than ever. Within easy reach beckons any number of day-trip destinations, including Baroque Vác, arty Szentendre, and historic Visegrád and Esztergom. A new video, just released by the Hungarian Tourism Agency and provided to We Love Budapest, captures the essence of Budapest and the Danube Bend in winter.

Those coming to Budapest and the Danube Bend in winter are in for a treat – as shown in the video film newly produced by the Hungarian Tourism Agency.

Starting with snow fluttering over the elegant Széchenyi Baths and seamlessly switching to the elegant glide of skaters on open-air public ice rinks, the video guides us through the magic of Budapest in winter. We also take in the Art Nouveau splendor of the Gellért Baths and live music entertainment.

We then fly over the rooftops of Vác, admiring the Baroque treasures beneath us, before crossing to the other side of the Danube and the art galleries of Szentendre.

From there, we head up to the royal castles of Visegrád and Esztergom, again spread out from above, finishing our tour with a bracing hike through the Börzsöny Hills and down the snowy slopes of Dobogókő.
