There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals, performances, and more – but here is our pick of the bunch for the imminent 72 hours or so:

Friday

10am - 10pm: Buda Doughnut Festival outside the Allee Shopping Center
The Buda side’s weekend-long festival – organized on the occasion of the Hungarian Carnival season, called Farsang – kicks off on Friday, awaiting guests with more than 50 kinds of delicious doughnuts ranging from traditional to new-wave, as well as street-food meals, pálinka, beers, colorful cocktails, and authentic Carnival courses.
11am - 5pm: Gastro Weekend at the Downtown MarketThe Downtown Market hosts a fantastic gastro weekend from Friday to Sunday, where restaurants and prestigious producers from all parts of the country, as well as the vendors of the market, prepare special surprise meals. The market will be heated for the time of the gastro weekend, the entry will be free, and the event is complete with plenty of exciting programs.
12pm - 8pm: Food Truck Rally at MillenárisDuring the weekend, Millenáris Hall B turns into a haven for handheld meals, as Budapest’s best food trucks – a total of 35 – proffer street-food snacks made especially for the occasion, competing for the prestigious Street Food Cup. The organizers of the event pick five ingredients, out of which the contestants have to use three, and then their meals will be graded by professional judges, and by the visitors of this exciting event.
More details8pm - 8:50pm: Compagnie Pál Frenák: Lutte at TrafóThe newest creation of prominent Magyar dancer and choreographer Pál Frenák, Lutte, is an intense, physical, and poetic dance piece that presents human struggles and social and emotional hierarchies by combining the elements of martial arts and contemporary dance, sign language and design, as well as motifs of Scandinavian mythology. The performance can be viewed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 8pm. 11pm - 2am:

All Purple Errything at Toldi Klub
We’re not sure whether purple is the true color of the rap/trap lifestyle, but on February 24th the smoke machine’s fog, the lasers, and the neon lights dress Budapest’s Toldi Klub up in lilac. However, even in this purple haze the organizers did not forget about an A-list lineup.

More details 11pm - 5am: Aly & Fila at Akvárium KlubAly & Fila is an Egyptian trance-music duo made up of Aly El Sayed Amr Fathalah and Fadi Wassef Naguib, who also host a popular internet radio show called Future Sound of Egypt, and are the founders of the label FSOE Recordings. On February 24th they throw an unforgettable gig at Budapest’s Akvárium Klub.

10am - 11pm: Hungarian Carnival and Pig-Killing Dinner at Margitutcakilenc
Visitors to Margitutca on Saturday and Sunday can taste a traditional Hungarian pig-killing dinner amid a colorful carnival cavalcade, where Dynamite Dudes guarantees the great music, and the owner of the best costume wins an awesome prize.
5pm - 2am: Ball of Hungarian Wines at the Corinthia Hotel BudapestOn Saturday, the Ball of Hungarian Wines invites an elite crowd to sample 100 of the country’s finest reds, whites, and sparkling wines amid the exclusive interior of the Corinthia Hotel Budapest. Beginning at 6:30pm, Magyar violin virtuoso Norbert Döme welcomes visitors with live melodies, while from 7pm guests can enjoy beautifully presented mouthwatering dinners amid jazz and swing melodies.

Director Mary Zimmerman brings her wondrous theatrical imagination to Dvořák’s fairytale of love and longing, rejection and redemption, giving the work an inspired staging,” says the Huffington Post. More details 10pm - 5am: BRKLYN Carnival at BRKLYNEven if it’s hard to admit it, the turn of the millennium was almost 20 years ago already; however, the fashion trends of the 2000s are still side-splitting. If you still safeguard a few cool clothes and outfits from this era, dig out those tattoo necklaces, studded belts, and halter tops, dress up as a cool kid, and pop down to BRKLYN for a crazy costume party.
10pm - 5am: Henry Saiz, VOLT Lokál Reopening at VOLT-LokálBudapest’s beloved VOLT Music Bar – found inside downtown’s Akvárium Klub – renews and returns with a new name, VOLT-Lokál, a new design, and plenty of exciting programs on Saturday. The opening weekend’s special guest is Henry Saiz, who is one of the most popular DJs of the electronic music scene today.

Japanese Gastro Market at BAOTIFUL
On Sunday, Baotiful’s monthly gastro market awaits food lovers with fantastic goods of Japanese gastronomy. 6:30pm - 8:15pm: Manhattan at Bem CinemaManhattan is a 1979 American romantic comedy-drama film directed by and starring Woody Allen, who portrays Isaac Davis, an aspiring writer whose love life is already tormented by his second ex-wife, Jill (Meryl Streep), and his teenage girlfriend, Tracy, when he falls deep for his best friend’s wife, Mary (Diane Keaton). On Sunday, the film screens with original English audio and Hungarian subtitles at Bem Cinema. 7pm - 11pm: Against The Current at Dürer KertAgainst The Current is an American pop rock band based in Poughkeepsie, New York. Last year they released one of 2016’s most popular debut albums, In Our Bones, which they now take on a world tour to many major cities around the globe, including Budapest.

Oscar Gala at various venues
The 89th Academy Awards ceremony honoring the best film productions of 2016 takes place at 8:30 pm EST on February 26th at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Film fanatics can follow the gala live with original English audio at cool Budapest bars like Neked Csak Dezső and Anker’t.
