Adrenaline-seeking sightseers who prefer a rapid alternative to leisurely Danube cruises have already been cherishing rip-roaring rides aboard Dunarama’s exclusive water limousine, zipping up and down the river at speeds up to 70 km/hour. Now the company’s freshly launched DunaTaxi service takes passengers from the Hungarian capital to the scenic riverfront town of Szentendre by water in just a half hour, and this swift service is available all year round.

In recent years, many Budapest-based companies recognized that transportation on the Danube is not exploited as efficiently as it could be. To fill this niche, BKK (the Hungarian acronym for the “Budapest Transport Center”) launched its regular public ferry service a few years ago, where a complete cruise costs less than a cup of fancy coffee, and riding on weekdays is free of charge for passengers holding any BKK pass, while Dunarama started an exclusive speedboat service for travelers who seek a little more adrenaline.

Dunarama has been transporting passengers aboard their elegant water limousine for six years now, and voyagers enjoy rides at speeds of 70km/hour; to make the excursion even more exclusive, guests are offered glasses of champagne during the trip. Based on the experience they gained from this upscale service, the company implemented another long-awaited plan this spring: the DunaTaxi, a new watercraft boasting tinted windows and a flashy color palette of yellow and blue.

The custom-designed water taxi can transport 12 people and bicycles at the same time, and offers an ideal alternative for reaching nearby cities quickly and easily. It might be a more leisurely experience to travel by ferryboat, but that vessel provides rather lengthy voyages for covering just a few kilometers. With DunaTaxi, we can travel to nearby riverfront towns like Szentendre more efficiently (without having to race for the best seats), as we can reach this historic town in just half an hour, while those who would like to push further upriver can cruise all the way to Visegrád in about an hour.

Tours to Szentendre are now available all year round; the water taxi departs from Dock 8A at 10.30am from Saturday to Monday, and the return trip departs at 2pm from Szentendre. Round-trip tickets cost 7,000 forints, while one-way tickets cost 5,000 forints.
