Our weekly roundup for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do, and who must not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – club parties, exhibits, live music, cocktails, performances, and more – but here is our pick of the bunch for the imminent 72 hours or so:

Friday

6pm - 10.20pm: Brad Pitt Double Feature: Snatch & Fight Club at Bem CinemaWhat’s better than watching one of Brad Pitt’s best films after work? Watching two of them! On Friday and Sunday, Bem Cinema will screen Guy Ritchie’s second crime caper, Snatch, and David Fincher’s darkly comic drama, Fight Club, both starring the famous actor. While the latter is a blistering, hallucinatory, often brilliant film combining social satire and sociopathology into one hard-hitting punch, the other tells a twisting, witty, and wise crime/boxing story, full of snappy dialogue and interesting characters. Both films are screened with original English audio and Hungarian subtitles.
7pm - 11pm: Thai Gourmet Week at Buddha-Bar Hotel Budapest Klotild Palace Buddha-Bar restaurant takes epicures on culinary tours around the Asian continent with regularly organized thematic feasts, and between March 17-26, diners can experience unique tastes of Thailand. Guests enjoy a flavorful collection of spice-infused bites amid the dimly lit Asian ambience that sets Buddha-Bar apart, and this mystical milieu is ideal for enjoying the artful composition of Oriental flavors prepared by Executive Chef Osama Kutaini. Following the flavorful journey of Thai treats, guests can imbibe fancy cocktails brought to Budapest by Roman Rizovatov – Bar Manager at the Buddha-Bar in St. Petersburg – that are equally appealing for taste buds and eyes.

8pm - 9.05pm:

Compagnie Virginie Brunelle – Foutrement
at Trafó Foutrement explores infidelity: men and women at the mercy of temptation and primal instincts. Three dancers – a man and two women, in love, ripped apart, wounded, betrayed – move with racked bodies, sagging under the weight of Love’s disillusionment. Throughout their sexual adventures, the illusion of love persists, doubt mixes with desire, and what began as attraction ends in obsession.

A string of scenes expertly interwoven by light and music, Foutrement draws its inspiration from classical dance, yet is unashamedly contemporary. At times lyrical, at times agitated and choppy, Virginie Brunelle’s work is always physically powerful and remarkably emotive.
11pm - 5am: NIGHTDRIVE Presents Harvey Sutherland at Toldi ClubMike Katz (or Kay) has been involved in Melbourne’s fringe live-music scene for the last couple of years now, releasing on cassettes, CDs, and vinyl for This Thing, the locally run label for which he calls home, whilst being picked up by the likes of the revered Peoples Potential Unlimited imprint and played by DJs like Motor City Drum Ensemble abroad. His newest alias, however, is the name on one-to-watch lists for 2016. As Harvey Sutherland, his Dam-Funk-esque live set is riddled with instantly hooky boogie basslines, saturated 808 drum tracks, and jazzy synth leads that send us all into a dreamy state of dance-floor euphoria. 11pm - 4am: A38 Night/Life – Perturbator, GosT, Dan Terminus at A38 ShipGosT takes everything you’ve learned to love about the retro scene and stabs the hell out of it, injecting gobs of late-night dance club desperation, dissonant slasher soundtrack hits, and references galore to the metal scene he grew up on.

James Kent – the one-man Parisian retrowave powerhouse – revisits the eerie and energizing analog oscillations of 1970s and 1980s horror, sci fi, action, and exploitation films. Taking cues from long-hailed masters in the genre – director John Carpenter, Goblin, Vangelis – Kent was weaned on a steady diet of LaserDisc monsterpieces.

And so, Perturbator was born.Saturday

10am - 1pm:
“Pocket Volcano”
at Virág Judit Gallery Titled as “Pocket Volcano”, this exhibit of József Csató presents his works created last year. A decided difference is the measure of abstraction thanks to the experimental surfaces of his newest works. While Csató is unconsciously preoccupied with collages, colors, smoke, and volcanic forms slowly seep through into his pictures, creating an interesting play between flat and dimensional surfaces. Up to this time, the complete oeuvre by Csató is defined by humor and irony, or the delicate presence of unrealistic burlesque elements. Luckily these are all characteristics of “Pocket Volcano” as well. Also, there is Csató’s straight-out honesty, and playful stolidity within the spontaneous details. One of our recommendations for the season.
3pm - 5pm:

11pm - 5am: Der Morgen Presents CW/A Live at Toldi ClubIndividual powerhouses of production, Avatism and Clockwork, have become one of the most exciting duos in dance music’s current circuit with CW/A.

Since their inception the duo has forged a unique path through the murky world of electronic music through performances at Sonar, Exit, Audioriver, DGTL, and Fabric, and through standout releases on Vakant, M_REC, and their own Parachute Records.Sunday
